GAZA, (PIC)-- The prisoners ministry in Gaza held the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) and prison service fully responsible for the lives of the 1500 Palestinian prisoners in the Negev desert prison after 25 of them were the victims of food poisoning.
Riyadh Al-Ashqar, the ministry’s spokesman, said in a statement on Tuesday that the prisoners almost wholly depend on the prison canteen to provide them with their needs of food and other necessities.

He said that the prison administration exploits the prisoners’ dependence on the canteen to double prices and to serve bad and sometimes rotten food to them, which was what happened in the Negev jail on Monday.

The affected prisoners felt stomachache then suffered diarrhea and vomiting, which are all symptoms of food poisoning and were carried to the prison clinic but their condition remained unknown for the rest of the prisoners, Ashqar said.

He charged that what happened was a deliberate crime and a part of the series of tightening measures against the prisoners as demanded by Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu.

The spokesman urged human rights groups to pressure the occupation to halt crimes against prisoners and to bind the IOA with international doctrines regarding prisoners.

  RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- More than 20 Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Negev jail were poisoned on Monday after eating meals served in the prison’s canteen, prisoners reported.

They told Ahrar Baladna website that the prison administration was persisting in selling them expired food products despite their protests.

They explained that after eating burger sandwiches from the canteen the prisoners suffered from diarrhea and vomiting after which they were carried to the prison’s clinic but the administration did not tell them about their condition.

They asked the Red Cross to intervene and demand their transfer to hospital for adequate checkup.
