RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Senior Fatah official Nabil Shaath affirmed there was a meeting to be held between de facto president Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli president Shimon Peres in an effort to resume peace talks.
Shaath made his remarks during his meeting with consuls and ambassadors in Ramallah city on Tuesday.
He told them that a meeting was supposed to take place between Abbas and Peres at the request of the latter who later decided to cancel the meeting after he did not receive the green light from Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu.
Maariv newspaper had reported that Netanyahu foiled an intended secret meeting that was supposed to be held on Thursday between Peres and Abbas in the Jordanian capital Amman.
According to the report, Abbas responded to Peres' invitation and went to Amman for the meeting, but he was told that the meeting was terminated because Netanyahu did not accept the new suggestions to resume the talks with the Palestinian side.
River to Sea Uprooted Palestinian
Quite honestly, Fatah should be ashamed of themselves. Fatah has completely abandoned their duty of serving the Palestinian people against the Zionist occupiers. Instead of serving this duty Fatah has chosen to collaborate with the Zionist occupational forces at the cost of those that have set forth to meet the duty of the Palestinian people. I find it sickening that Fatah still has the audacity to use the name Fatah, Fatah without serving the needs of the Palestinian people and affirming resistance to the occupational forces is no Fatah at all.
