Syria Envoy to US |
WASHINGTON- Interviewed by Russia Today satellite channel, Syria's Ambassador to the US Imad Mustafa affirmed that Syria will get out of the current crisis stronger, saying that this crisis is serious and true and it forms a significant challenge for the country as the challenges create the opportunities.
Ambassador Mustafa added "We distinguish between the national opposition which has political objections and the criminal gangs which commit crimes unprecedented in Syria's history."
"The armed groups haven't just perpetrated acts of killing, intimidation, kidnapping and mutilation, but they have also committed obnoxious acts such as pulling out the eyes of a kidnapped army officer, so it is the duty of the state to preserve the security, the law, the homeland and the citizens in the Syrian cities," Mustafa said.

He reiterated that Syria will continue to fight the criminal groups which shed the blood of the Syrian people through the fabricated lies repeated on some misleading satellite channels which provoke the brothers to kill each other.
"There is a national and true Syrian opposition which we recognize and we respect it," he said, indicating that Syria seeks to build bridges of dialogue with the national opposition.
He pointed out that the Russian officials say that all the Syrians completely accept the dialogue, "but we must differentiate between the constructive role and destructive one which creates a problem in Syria, and Russia usually seeks to find solutions for this problem in a time when the US serves the Israeli and Zionist projects."
He added " The Syrians are brothers whether they agree or not, and they must find solutions for their country, yet there is a national opposition which doesn't want to participate in the dialogue due to the misunderstanding or due to foreign influences…There are also the mercenaries of Zionism and Washington who are not considered an opposition as they exploit the righteous demands of the Syrian people to achieve their own goals."
Ambassador Mustafa said "There are significant spectrums of the Syrian people who have important political objections which haven't been ignored or denied as Syria has witnessed a huge number of the radical reforms that are unparalleled in any other Arab country, in addition to the committee which was formed to prepare a draft Syrian constitution which stresses that all the issues are on the table without any exception as the dialogue and the creative political solutions are the only way for changing the political image in Syria completely."
He went on saying that the UN Security Council is not expected to pass a resolution against Syria as Russia, China and several other countries are aware of how the US and its allies exploited the Council to achieve their personal goals with regard to Libya in a way that hasn't served the interests of the Libyan people, therefore, these countries won’t accept any goals that are against the nations of the region and their aspirations."
Mustafa concluded by saying "The UN wants to impose more sanctions on Syria, and it has been always accustomed for that as it has been imposing sanctions on Syria since 1956 without stopping, and those who don't know that must review the history of the Syrian-American relations," indicating that only the stupid and naïve people can believe that the UN imposes such sanctions due to its keenness on human rights.
