A roadside bomb aimed at a UNIFIL (United Nation Interim forces in Lebanon) patrol mildly wounded four French soldiers and two civilians on Friday, Al-Manar correspondent said.

The explosion, which occurred in the Lebanese coastal town of Tyre near Bourj Shmali, was planted in a trench on the side of the road, a security source told AL-Manar website.

Lebanese security forces enclosed the area of the explosion.

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman slammed the “terrorist attack” on the UNIFIL, saying its objective is to drive the peacekeepers out of the country. At a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sarkisian in Yerevan, Suleiman said: “France, which has made huge sacrifices for Lebanon, will not succumb to these terrorist activities.”
“Lebanon's security agencies will do everything to find and arrest those responsible for the explosion and to prevent the repeat of such tragedies in the future,” he said.

Speaker Nabih Berri condemned the attack on UNIFIL and the national security, saying it aims at destabilizing the South, according to a statement issued by Berri’s office said.

The speaker noted that the “bombing (only) serves the Israeli” intentions aimed at committing “genocides” and violations in southern Lebanon. He called on the army and the security institutions to intensify their measures “to unveil those responsible behind the organized terrorist crimes.”
