DAMASCUS,(SANA) - Lieutenant General , Head of the Arab League Observer Mission in Damascus Mohammad al-Dabi stressed that what has been stated by Observer Anwar Malek through one of the satellite channels is completely false.
In a press statement, al-Dabi said that since he was nominated as a member of Homs team, Malek hasn't leaved the hotel for six days and he hasn't participated the members of the team in their field visits in Homs under the pretext that he has been sick.
Al-Dabi added that a day before leaving Damascus, Malek requested to be allowed to travel to Paris for treatment and his request was agreed upon, yet he traveled before taking the measures required for traveling and without handing the trust given to him to participate in the mission in Homs and he traveled at his own expense.
He clarified that Malek perjured, adding that he is responsible for what he said and this is what the members of the team which went to Homs affirm.
Al-Dabi reiterated his call upon the mass media to investigate the accuracy with regard to what it broadcasts and to adhere to the objectivity.
Al-Khudair: AL Observer Mission Continues Work in Syrian Cities
Head of the Operation Room of the Arab League Observer Mission to Syria Ambassador Adnan al-Khudair on Thursday stressed that teams of observers will continue their mission in Syria until January 19th as it has been agreed upon according to the protocol signed between the Syrian government and the Arab League.
In a statement at the AL headquarters in Cairo, al-Khudair said "A number of Arab countries and civil organizations requested to join the observers' mission working in Syria, yet we received no request from the General Mohammed al-Dabi, the head of the Arab monitors' mission for taking in more monitors."
He added that the total number of monitors currently in Syria is 163, indicating that any additional numbers will be ready at request.
Al-Khudair denied the United Nations' training of new monitors to be sent to Syria.
Regarding what was said about the withdrawal of observers from the mission, al-Khudair said that no one withdrew. "What happened is that two observers, an Algerian and a Sudanese, apologized. The first one for health reasons while the other for personal reasons," he added.
He stressed that there is no place for the words "resignation " or "withdrawal" in the protocol and that "apology" is the only word mentioned there, adding that whoever gives statements contrary to this to the media will be responsible for his words.
On the sufficiency of the monitors, al-Khudair said that things should be arranged with the Syrian government according to the protocol to select areas to be visited, adding that the Syrian government expressed commitment to protecting monitors.
