Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani held talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Thursday.

A Turkish diplomatic source said the two discussed Iran’s nuclear program, and the situation in Iraq.

"Of course Iran's nuclear program was discussed," the source told Agence France Press, on condition of anonymity.

Larijani is due to meet with Turkish parliament speaker Cemil Cicek, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Abdullah Gul and hold a press conference.

The visit of Larijani, a former nuclear negotiator, came amid an international standoff between Tehran and world powers over Tehran nuclear program.

The west accuses Iran of using its nuclear program for military purposes.

However Iran confirms its program is for peaceful ends only, insisting that is its right under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) while Israel, which is believed to be the sole nuclear power in the Middle East with more than 200 nuclear heads, is not a signatory for this treaty.
