The United Nations has received reports that Syrian armed opposition groups are using child soldiers in their battle against the Syrian authorities.
"We are receiving allegations of children with the so-called "Free Syrian Army," Radhika Coomaraswamy, UN special representative for children in armed conflict, told reporters.
She however gave no details, saying "we haven't been able to verify the allegations of breaches of conventions banning the use of child soldiers aged under than 16 years."
The UN concern comes after one week of a report issued by the New-York based Human Rights Watch saying that "the armed groups affiliated to the Syrian opposition are perpetrating dangerous abuses of human rights including acts of kidnapping, tortures, executions against civilians and military members."
