The commander of the naval force of Iran Admiral Ali Fadavi said the Iranian naval forces have achieved remarkable success by producing a class of speedboats which are able to fire missiles while moving at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour.
In remarks during the opening ceremony of the second national conference on speedboats which opened on Sunday at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology, the admiral warned that if America is determined to launch an attack against Iran for any reason, then we’ll decide the fate of the war at sea.He said that the armed speedboats which are equipped with torpedoes and electronic systems “exist nowhere in the world but in Iran”, adding that “many countries have not entered this field, and some countries like the United States abandoned their attempt after a short time.”
The Iranian navy commander pointed out that Iran possesses 20,000 speedboats which serve military purposes.
In another development, Iran's Navy warships have foiled two pirate attacks on an Iranian cargo vessel close to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, off the coast of Somalia in the Horn of Africa.
The Iranian freighter first came under attack on Sunday after 40 armed people on board six skiffs approached the ship at high speed some 115 nautical miles northwest of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, according to Press TV.
The Iranian warships patrolling the area rushed to assist the cargo vessel upon its distress call, which reported an unauthorized boarding attempt by several people thus thwarting the attack by opening fire on the pirates.
