Israel’s Azeri-Armenia proxy war in Iran’s backyard

On December 19, 2012, Farhad Mammadov, director of the Center for Startegic Studies under Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev announced that a war between Azerbaijan and Armenia (over the disputed Armenenian-majority Nagorno-Karabagh) can begin at any time. In September 2012, Armenia shot down an Israeli-made Azerbaijani drone over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Azerbaijan, a Shia-majority state is ruled by the Aliyev Dynasty, established by Gen. Gaidar Aliyev (d. 2003), a former Russian KGB official and USSR boss in Russian Azerbaijan. The country was carved out of the northern province of Persia by the Russian Jewish communist leaders in 1918, just after the Russian Bolshevik Revolution. The Jewish community in Azerbaijan has been able to maintain it grip over country’s politics, military and oil industry – thanks to Aliyevs close relations with American Jewish Lobby and the Zionist entity.

Azeri economy depends mainly on its oil and gas sale. Country’s known oil and gas reserves are estimated to be 6 trillion cubic meters of gas, and 4 billion tons of oil. Western energy giants such as BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, and Total (France) own huge stakes in Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure.

The United States-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC) has always been crammed with Israel-Firsters such as Vice President Dick Cheney, former Secretaries of State James A. Baker and Henry Kissinger, Richard Armitage, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Richard Perle, and Brent Scowcroft.

Israeli Mossad is very active in Azerbaijan. Israeli airforce controls two of four Azeri airfields, which it uses for drones to spy upon Iran’s military activities nextdoor. These airfields will come handy during a military strikes on Iran by US-Israel and provide refueling for Israeli jets on the ground instead of in the air – as reported by Mark Perry at the pro-Israel Foreign Policy Magazine. Israel imports 45% of its oil needs from Azerbaijan and is second largest buyer of Azeri oil which is shipped through the Baku-Tibilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

Azerbaijan with an annual military budget of $3 billion – provides great opportunity for Israel’s arms industry. Last year Israel sold $1.6 billion worth of drones, anti-aircraft and missile defense systems to Baku. In 2010, Israelis cashed-in $2 billion from Azeri contracts.

Since 1990, Tehran has refuses to back Baku over Nagorno-Karabagh conflict with Armenia. Tehran has called both Azerbaijan and Armenia to resolve the problem peacefully according to the wishes of the inhabitants of the enclve. This infuriated late Azeri president Gen. Gaidar Aliyev and he decided to share bed with the anti-Iran Zionist regime in order to receive protection from the sole super-power United States, an Israeli colony in practice.

Dr. Ruslan Kurbanov claimed last month that the Zionist regime is using Baku to improve its image among Muslim nation-states and project Azerbaijan as a mediator in the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Both the US and Israel know that a military solution to Nagorno-Karabakh is not possible based on their experience in Georgia a few years ago. They fear that any military attacked by Baku with the support of the US and Israel will draw Russia, Iran and China in which all have their strategic interests in the region.

Ilham Aliyev, on the other hand, is courting the Zionist regime hoping the American Jewish lobby groups will pursue Washington to pressure Armenia to resolve the dispute acceptable to Baku.
Armenian make the largest Christian minority (450,000) within the Islamic Republic. It has two reserve seats in Iranian Majlis (Parliament). Iran is home to over 18 million Azeri people as compared to Azerbaijan’s total population of 9 million.
