83 Senators Call for ‘Robust’ Increase in Aid to Israel

gazarelief
[Ed. note – One gets the feeling that this scene from Gaza offers us a preview of what America is going to look like some day if the Zionists aren’t removed from power. And now it appears our corrupt leaders are planning to substantially increase military aid to Israel–probably by the billions. Eighty-three US senators have, in a letter, called for a “memorandum of understanding” in which the US will pledge a “robust” increase in military aid to the Jewish state.
Perhaps worth noting is that the news of this letter comes just four days after Israeli media had reported that Russian jets fired upon Israeli planes on at least two occasions in recent weeks. Whether that’s the reason AIPAC is making the letter public at this time, I couldn’t say for sure, but it is something worth keeping in mind, and certainly we’ve been on a collision course with Russia for a while.
A report at the JTA describes the new letter as “AIPAC-backed,” and indeed itsfull text can be accessed on the lobby’s website. The letter is dated March 16, 2016, and cites Iranian tests of ballistic missiles as well as the usual claptrap about “terrorist groups dedicated to Israel’s destruction, including affiliates of al Qaeda and ISIS.” (Neither ISIS nor Al Nusra nor any of the other terrorist groups in Syria have launched a single attack against Israel). The letter’s initial two signers, on March 16, were Lindsay Graham and Chris Coons, both stalwart Israel supporters. How many of the rest of the senators signed on just in the past few days is not clear, but certainly news reports published in the past week would suggest heightened concern–from an Israeli perspective, that is. Not only have we heard about Russian jets firing on Israeli planes (who of course have no right to be in Syrian airspace to begin with), but Iran reportedly has just received delivery of the Russian S-300 anti-aircraft system. Russia has denied the reports that it fired on the Israeli aircraft, but according to a report here, the situation in Syria was the main reason for Netanyahu’s “impromptu visit” to Moscow last week.
I would also say this: not only is the letter “backed” by AIPAC, but my guess would be it was the lobby which initiated it, and possibly even wrote it as well–so hardly surprising that we find the same lobby now issuing public statements in praise of it.
“We applaud this statement from the Senate of overwhelming bipartisan support for a robust, new Memorandum of Understanding with Israel that increases aid while retaining the current terms of the existing program,” said an AIPAC spokesperson
And guess what? Despite Obama’s supposedly “strained” relations with the Israeli prime minister, we have a presidential spokesperson announcing (see article below) that the administration is “prepared” to sign what appears to be the very type of MOU, or “memorandum of understanding,” called for in the letter.
All of this might give some pause to wonder, “Well, gee, who really owns America?” Certainly the correct answer is not “the Americans.” If you haven’t read my article Ruled By the Insane, which I posted yesterday, I suggest you do so. It provides a graphic illustration, using an anti-BDS measure now being considered in California as an example, of the extent to which America is totally under control of Zionists from the federal level, all the way down to the state and probably even local levels as well.  ]

The White House has signaled readiness to boost military aid to Israel to a historic high, after a letter signed by 83 Senators advocated for the increase. Aid to Israel currently accounts for more than half the total US military aid budget.
Relations between US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have been frosty in recent years. Netanyahu canceled his planned trip to the US last month and said he intended to negotiate the increase with the next US president, according to the Times of Israel. Now, however, the Obama administration is saying it is willing to boost military aid to Israel to historically unprecedented levels.
“We are prepared to sign an MOU [memorandum of understanding] with Israel that would constitute the largest single pledge of military assistance to any country in US history,”a White House official told Reuters on Monday.
Earlier in the day, 83 US Senators – 51 republicans and 32 Democrats – sent a letter to the White House urging an increase in aid. The effort was spearheaded by South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham and Delaware Democrat Chris Coons.
“In light of Israel’s dramatically rising defense challenges, we stand ready to support a substantially enhanced new long-term agreement to help provide Israel the resources it requires to defend itself and preserve its qualitative military edge,” the letter said.
Among the Senators who signed the letter were Texas Republican and presidential contender Ted Cruz and Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren. Vermont’s Bernie Sanders, who is challenging Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, was notably absent from the list of supporters.
Graham, chairman of the Senate’s Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs offered one possible explanation for Washington’s sudden eagerness to discuss the current aid arrangement, which expires in 2018.
“We’ll have more money this year than potentially next year, because sequestration kicks back in,” he told Times of Israel last month, referring to spending cuts the US government adopted in 2013.
Under the current aid arrangement, Israel receives $3.1 billion a year – almost 53 percent of the $5.9 billion in official foreign military aid handed out by Washington. This deal is set to expire in 2018, however, and Israel has been pushing for an increase to $5 billion.
Following the nuclear deal with Iran in July 2015 – which Netanyahu has vehemently opposed – Washington offered to boost the amount of military aid to Israel to $4.5 billion a year.
Among the programs funded by the US military aid are missile defense systems such as ‘David’s Sling’ and ‘Iron Dome,’ intended to deal with short- to medium-range missiles, as well as the high-altitude ‘Arrow 3’ interceptors.
