Palestinian community in Italy declares Abbas as persona non grata in Rome
ROMR, (PIC)-- The Palestinian community in Italy supported by a number of pro-Palestinian institutions in the country have declared former PA chief and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas as "persona-non-grata" over his "heinous" role in the war on Gaza.
"Abbas isn’t welcomed by the Palestinian community in Italy and other Arab and Muslim communities in the country in addition to all supporters of the Palestinian people in the Italian arena", a bulletin issued by those institutions on Monday confirmed.
They said that Abbas, who is visiting Rome as part of his European tour, played a very bad role during the Israeli war on Gaza, which was far from the Palestinian interest, adding that Abbas, as a leader of the Palestinian people, should have stood beside his people in Gaza, and not to blame them for the massacre.
"We all clearly noticed the disappointment of Abbas and his team over the Israeli failure to finish off the Palestinian resistance and Hamas Movement in Gaza", the bulletin underlined, describing such an attitude on the part of Abbas and his cohorts as the first time in the Palestinian people's history that a leadership acts in this "treacherous" way.
The bulletin also accused Abbas of deliberately rejecting to attend a pro-Gaza Arab summit called for by Qatar in its capital Doha, stressing that peoples of the world started to look at Abbas and his team as allies to the enemies of the Palestinian people.
Moreover, the bulletin deprecated Abbas's armed militias suppressing of pro-Gaza demonstrations across the West Bank, pointing out that had those practices occurred in a democratic entity, then Abbas and his team should have been put on trial for their "disgraceful" roles.
Finally, the bulletin underscored that Abbas has lost legitimacy in the Palestinian arena, and although he is received in European countries, yet, legitimacy of any Palestinian leader is given by the Palestinian people and not by the Europeans.
During the war, big demonstrations against the Israeli invasion of Gaza had taken place in different Italian cities, including the capital Rome.
