Hamas denounces the murder of detained Abu Zuhri in Egyptian jails
[ 13/10/2009 - 04:30 PM ]
GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas mourned the death of Yousef Abu Zuhri, the brother of its spokesman in Gaza Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, who died Tuesday of torture in one of the Egyptian jails.
The Movement in a statement strongly condemned the murder under torture of Yousef Abu Zuhri, adding that Cairo should investigate the incident and put on trial those responsible.
Hamas described the incident as "serious and bizarre", adding that Yousef, 38, was subjected to excruciating torture that led to internal bleeding for two weeks before his death.
"We have contacted officials in Egypt several times during his detention period to save his life and asked for transferring him to hospital for treatment but to no avail," Hamas said, adding that Yousef had asked his family in a brief call from his jail to contact Egyptian officials to save his life.
The Movement asked the Egyptian leadership to release all political detainees topped by Ayman Nofal before they die in similar circumstances in Egyptian jails, adding that its concern over their lives was growing following Yousef's death.
Hamas asked the Egyptian and Arab human rights groups to assume their responsibilities and to expose the crime and to adopt all steps necessary to investigate the crime and bring the culprits to account.

Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri had earlier announced the death of his brother in a statement to the PIC, adding that Yousef died of torture.
He said that the Egyptian security only carried Yousef to hospital when his condition was critical and after a preliminary surgery he was returned to jail in a very bad condition until his death was known without any announcement by the Egyptian authorities.
Abu Zurhi said that his brother was arrested when he crossed into the Egyptian territory last April without any charge then underwent cruel interrogation rounds.

A senior Hamas member dies in an Egyptian prison of injuries sustained during 'torture', Palestinian sources have reported.
"Yousef Abu Zuhri, 38, the brother of Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri, was martyred in an Egyptian prison as a result of torture," Fawzi Barhum, the other main spokesman for the group, told AFP news agency.
Egyptian officials have denied that torture was the cause of his death.
Yousef Abu Zuhri was arrested in the city of Al-Arish near Egypt's border with Gaza in April on suspicion of entering the country illegally through an underground tunnel.
Sami Abu Zuhri said his brother died after weeks of 'brutal torture in an Egyptian prison' that led to severe bleeding.
He added that his brother was briefly treated at Egypt's Alexandria University hospital but was returned to his cell before his condition had stabilized.
A spokesman for Egypt's interior ministry said Abu Zuhri 'died a natural death from a drop in blood circulation'.
AFP also quoted an Egyptian security official as saying on condition of anonymity that an autopsy said he died of natural causes.
Egypt has been repeatedly accused of torturing prisoners by former detainees and human rights groups.
Earlier this year, the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights said 13 citizens had been tortured to death between June 2008 and February 2009.

A lesson to "naive" HAMAS
[Dear Hamas: Those responsible work under the direct orders of the CIA asset, Intelligence chief Suleiman, with whom you have been conducting "brotherly" negotiations for "reconciliation"and he is the one you thanked for his "sincere efforts" to help "Palestinian unity."].
Comment:
Yesterday, I watched, the asshole Ziad Abu-Ain, of Fath, Osama Hamdan of Hamas, and Abdulbari Atwam on Almanar.
Atwan, said God loves those Shiekhs of Hamas, the insanity of Abbas is gift from God to help Hamas cornered by Egyption to sign the recomciliation agreement. Moreober, it spoiled all work done by Abbas to polish PLO and his Fath movement.
All the time, while, using Lu's words, the Generals sitting behind their computers in America giving lesson to Hamas. I was saying, Hamas was buying time and using it to expose traitors.
I would add, the murder of Yousuf Abu Zuhri is another gift from God to cornered Hamas.
