Fatah Memorandum Says Hopes in Obama 'Evaporated'
Readers Number : 36

13/10/2009 An internal document circulated among members of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's political party says all hopes placed in the Obama administration "have evaporated" because of alleged White House backtracking on key issues to the Palestinians.

The Fatah Party memorandum, obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press, accuses the United States of backing off from its demands that Israel freeze settlement construction and failing to set a clear agenda for new Mideast peace talks.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the Oct. 12 document reflected Abbas's own views or was intended to be leaked as Fatah's attempt to pressure President Barack Obama to bear down harder on Israel.

The document said the Palestinians have lost hope in Obama and accused the American leader of caving in to pressure from pro-Israel lobbyists in Washington. "All hopes placed in the new US administration and President Obama have evaporated," said the document issued by Fatah's Office of Mobilization and Organization. The department is headed Fatah's No. 2, Mohammed Ghneim.

Obama, it said, "couldn't withstand the pressure of the Zionist lobby, which led to a retreat from his previous positions on halting settlement construction and defining an agenda for the negotiations and peace."

The Fatah document also restated the group's stance that Israel must freeze settlement construction and agree to a clear agenda for talks before negotiations can resume.

The US says it hasn't abandoned these objectives but officials have indicated Washington does not see them as conditions for resuming talks.

Obama's personal intervention last month, when he summoned Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to a three-way meeting in New York, failed to break the impasse.
The document echoes sentiments expressed by other Fatah officials. On Sunday, former Fatah strongman Mohammed Dahlan said the party "feels very disappointed and worried by the US administration retreat."

The memo comes at a time of great unrest in Fatah over Abbas's short-lived decision to suspend efforts to bring Israel before a UN war crimes tribunal in connection with the winter war in the Gaza Strip.

Rift Developing Between PA and Fatah

A Good Piece

By Mel Frykberg

RAMALLAH, Oct 12 (IPS) - An increasingly isolated and unpopular Palestinian Authority (PA) has again made a 180-degree turn in the Goldstone report fiasco as it tries to fend off mounting criticism from all and sundry, including its own organisation.......

The PA had initially supported the report, but backed down under intense political pressure from Israel and the U.S.

These latest developments have contributed significantly to a growing rift between the PA and its affiliate Fatah as more and more Palestinians and Arabs see the PA as little more than a stooge of the U.S. and the Israelis.

"The PA is in complete denial. It appears to be living on another planet," Dr Samir Awad from Birzeit University near Ramallah told IPS.

"Something is going to explode. We are sick of them. The Palestinian street wants a divorce from the PA," Aysam Zaid a Fatah leader in Ramallah told IPS......

While a roasting from Hamas and Islamic Jihad was predictable, scathing criticism from within the PA, the PLO and even the Arab-Israeli Balad party appears to have caught Abbas off guard......

Nabil Amr, the former Palestinian ambassador to Egypt, a former aide to the Palestinian President, also lambasted Abbas. PA retaliation was swift. Security personnel for Amr were withdrawn from his Ramallah residence, a serious issue in light of the fact that several years ago gunmen seriously wounded Amr in what appeared to be an assassination attempt.

Balad, the Israeli Arab party, called for Abbas's immediate dismissal last week after convening a conference especially to discuss the matter. This is the first time in Palestinian history that an Israeli Arab party has intervened in PA politics...........

Furthermore, Abbas's recent fiery rhetoric against Israel's Judaisation of East Jerusalem also raised sceptical eyebrows as critics say the PA has done little to counter the developments. Palestinian activists in Jerusalem say that the PA gives minimal financial and legal aid to fight Israeli settlements and home demolitions, and doesn't have a coordinated approach........

However, even with the rift Awad doesn't see a major split between Fatah and the PA in the near future. "Despite the PA having vested economic and political interests in maintaining the status quo at the expense of the Palestinians, many Fatah members will continue to follow the political line as they need to survive economically, and an internal split would cripple their movement politically," Awad told IPS."

Donkey's Flu:

Jerusalem is being ethnically cleansed at a furious pace, the West Bank is being colonized at the fastest pace since 1967, 1.5 million Palestinians living in the Gaza ghetto are still living under total siege and the two main Palestinian "leader" organizations are busy with.......THEIR ENDLESS "DIALOG!"

You can't say that the Pharaoh and his Intelligence chief Suleiman have not learned from the Israelis. They have learned how to keep the stupid Palestinians busy on an endless treadmill while their land is robbed totally.

Good wishes to your "dialog!"

What about the the "Idiots" ENDLESS "DIALOG!" in Lebanon???

**************************
Thank you Ali

Its either Dialog or civil war,
As Israel is the benificiary, both Hamas and Hezbullah chosed dialog to avoid the trap of the Civil war

Both Hamas, and Hezbullah acted when the resistance was endangered.
and both were forced to enter the political game to keep the resistance option alive.
Both avoided the political games, until the Syrian withdrawal from lebanon, and the Killing Arafat.

Yes, the DONKEY was right in saying:

"Jerusalem is being ethnically cleansed at a furious pace, the West Bank is being colonized at the fastest pace since 1967, 1.5 million Palestinians living in the Gaza ghetto are still living under total siege and the two main Palestinian "leader" organizations are busy with.......THEIR ENDLESS "DIALOG!""

But,
Donkeys who can't play football and piano, can't Imagin what could have happenned if Hamas refused to enter the political game and achieve its Historical Victory, thus, giving Fateh Ramallah trairors full freedom tosellout Palestinian rights. Was Hamas able to kick PA Ganges out of Gaza without entering the political game and winning the elcction??.

Hezbullah is following the steps of Hamas, and Israel is concerned of a Gaza-like situation, when Gazans voted for Hamas

"The situation is really tense in the US and Israel," Israeli host Yenon Magal said, adding that "Americans and Israelis are afraid of a potential victory of Hezbollah in Lebanon that would remind them of Hamas victory in Gaza."

Cairo Traitor is also afraid. All Arab puppet's regimes are afraid.

Is the Donkey afraid??
He never dared to criticise Hezbullah?

And he would never do that..
He should support Hezbullah, and use it as smoke screen to cover his ZIONIST AGANDA

Based on the regional alliance proposed by Assad, expect joint Syrian-Iraqi-Turkish-Israeli-U.S.-Iranian military exercises pretty soon?

Celebrate the "New Middle East" now; or else!
