A new report says the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants were trained by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Jordan more than two years ago.
Citing Jordanian officials, the Citizen’s Column revealed that members of the ISIL were trained in 2012 by the US instructors working at a secret base in Jordan.
The report said that the militants were initially trained at the time as part of covert aids to the Takfiri militants operating inside Syria.
The ISIL terrorists have recently overrun most of one province and parts of three others north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. The terrorists also captured four cities as well as a border crossing with Syria during Friday and Saturday clashes in Iraq’s Anbar Province.
Over the past days, Iraqi armed forces have been engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL terrorists, who have threatened to take their acts of violence to other Iraqi cities, including the capital, Baghdad.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has repeatedly blamed Saudi Arabia and Qatar for the security crisis and growing terrorism in his country, and denounced the Al Saud regime as a major supporter of global terrorism.
