Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem said in a letter to his Russian counterpart that Syria’s conviction of victory is unwavering thanks to the steadfastness of its people and the support of its friends on top of which Russia.
“Syria's unwavering confidence in its victory is thanks to its people's resistance, and to the support of its friends, especially Russia," said Muallem.
The stance came in two letters exchanged on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary for establishing the diplomatic relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and Russia.
“The leaders and people of Syria are respectful and full of gratitude for Russia's stance,” said Muallem, adding that Moscow "is supporting Syria in the face of a world war launched by obscurantists and terrorists".
Muallem added that Syria is more determined than ever to crush the terrorists and to defend its sovereignty... and the security of the region.
At the end of the letter, Muallem said “On this occasion, we reiterate our keenness on going forwards in our strategic relations with Russia in a way that would serve the interests of the two friendly countries and achieve the regional and international peace and security.
For his part, Lavrov congratulated Muallem and to all the Syrians on this occasion, saying “The political, economic and humanitarian relations between Syria and Russia are deeply rooted, and they have been growing successfully since the forties of the past century as Russia was one of the first countries that recognized Syria’s independence.
