Danny Cohen, the director of BBC Television, asserted this week that rising anti-Semitism has made him question the long-term future for Jews in the UK. Speaking at a conference in Jerusalem, Cohen said,
One may wonder whether a person who thinks that Britain may not be his ‘long term home’ should run the biggest and most important British media outlet. Might it be more appropriate for such a powerful job to be left in to a person who is primarily loyal to Britain and see this country as his home?
“I’ve never felt so uncomfortable being a Jew in the UK as in the last 12 months.”The ultra Zionist, The Times Of Israel, reported that in a conversation with Yonit Levi on Israel’s Channel 2 TV station, Cohen acknowledged that Britain might not be his ‘long term home.’ “And it’s [being a Jew in the UK] made me think about, you know, is it our long-term home, actually? Because you feel it. I’ve felt it in a way I’ve never felt before actually.”
One may wonder whether a person who thinks that Britain may not be his ‘long term home’ should run the biggest and most important British media outlet. Might it be more appropriate for such a powerful job to be left in to a person who is primarily loyal to Britain and see this country as his home?
