The Independent reported recently that the Jewish author Howard Jacobson was about “to rewrite Shakespeare’s most controversial play, The Merchant of Venice, in a bid to tackle its anti-Semitism.”
The Jews are banned from rewriting their own Torah, no one else is allowed to express an opinion on Jewish history, let alone revise it. But rewriting Shakespeare is apparently Kosher.
