Saudi Arabia along with other Gulf states launched late Wednesday a military offensive against Yemen, the Saudi ambassador to the United States announced from Washington.

The reports added that the revolutionary committee called on Yemenis to demonstrate against the offensive.

"Thirteen civilians, including women and children, were killed in the Saudi raids overnight," the source told AFP. Witnesses said residents were helping civil defence officials to search for any more victims under the rubble of seven houses damaged in the raids.

Saudi envoy to US Adel al-Jubeir said that a coalition of 10 countries, including five Gulf monarchies, had been set up to protect the government of former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi whose whereabouts are unknown after reportedly fleeing the country earlier in the day.

"The operation is to defend the legitimate government," al-Jubeir told reporters in a rare news conference at the Saudi embassy in Washington.

Jubeir added that the current situation in Yemen “is not an option" for Riyadh, saying the operation began at 7 p.m. Eastern Time (2300 GMT).

The Al Arabiya News Channel reported on Thursday that Saudi Arabia has deployed "100 fighter jets,

Ansarullah: Yemen Army, Popular Committees Line up against Saudi Aggression

Local Editor

Ansarullah revolutionary movement stressed that the Yemeni army and the popular committees are standing in one line against the Saudi war on Yemen.

In an interview with al-Manar, Ansarullah official Ali al-Qahoum said that the Yemeni people will defend their country and its sovereignty against the Saudi attack.

“Time of guardianship and humiliation has gone. We’ll not be terrified by US’ threats,” Qahoum said on Thursday after the Saudi envoy to US Adel al-Jubeir declared the war on Yemen from Washington.

Popular committees in Yemen
The Yemeni army and the popular committees are standing in one line to confront the foreign offensive, Ansarullah official said, describing the attack as war declared by the US and its allies in the regions against the Yemeni people.

Meanwhile, al-Qahoum denied reports which said that Ansarullah commanders were killed by the Saudi raids, confirming that the victims of the strikes are all civilians.

Earlier on Thursday, warplanes of the Royal Saudi Air Force bombed several positions in Sanaa and launched attacks against the capital’s airport and the Dulaimi airbase.
