Warning: contains extremely graphic footage
The history of World War II and its aftermath has been written and told largely by the victors, which of course is the way it always goes in wars. This video, however, offers the other perspective on it all–that of the Germans.
The documentary tells the story of Germany’s rape (the word is used here both literally and figuratively) by the advancing Soviet Red Army in 1944 and ’45 and the savagery its troops, whose main leaders were Jewish, inflicted upon German civilians. Sadly the conduct of Allied forces was not much better, and as you’ll see, particularly reprehensible were the policies of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower.
As I say, this is a perspective you are not going to get from any but a small number of sources, but perhaps it’s all worth keeping in mind and reflecting upon as the 70th anniversary “victory” celebrations unfold later this week in Russia.
