Russian Airstrikes in Syria Help ‘Iraqi Military in Fight Against Daesh’

The actions of the Russian Air Forces in Syria are effective and have a positive impact on the fight against Daesh in Iraq, Joint Commander of the Iraqi Armed Forces Yahya Rasool Abdullah told Sputnik.

Sputnik – Middle East

The Syrian army with the aid of the Russian air force has managed to destroy the main stronghold of the terrorists in the province of Latakia in Salma city situated on the border with Turkey and in the town of Sheikh Miskin and Osman in the south.

A four year blockade was lifted in the province of Aleppo where two Shiite cities of Noubel and az-Zahra were freed on Thursday. The offensive is under way in the suburbs of Damascus as well.

“Russian strikes are playing an effective role in the destruction of terrorist groups in Syria, and we know how many terrorists come out of Raqqa, the so-called Daesh capital of Syria. Attacks on critical command centers have reflected positively on the military operations in Iraq as well,” the commander said.

Rasul also mentioned the positive support from the international coalition led by the US in spying and investigating, as well as support provided from a joint information center of Iraq, Syria, Iran and Russia situated in Baghdad.

Commenting on the possibility of expanding cooperation with the Russian Federation, representatives of the Armed Forces said that Iraq is open to support from all of the interested parties.

“We have a lot of contracts for the supply of arms and equipment with Russia. We need support of all in the fight against terrorism because Iraq represents the whole world in fight with them,” Rasool said.

On September 30, Russia at the request of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria began target airstrikes on the Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations. With the support of the Russian aviation, government troops and patriotic opposition forces launched an offensive attack on terrorist positions.

Just in the last 1.5 months, according to the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria more than 150 settlements have been freed from terror.

Terrorists Expelled from Military Base North of Aleppo by Kurdish defense Forces

TEHRAN (FNA)- Kurdish fighters of the People’s Protection Units, backed by the Syrian and Russian jet’s air cover, managed to establish full control over a military base north of Aleppo and several other sites in the region formerly held by the terrorists.

During the intensive ground offensive, the mainly Kurdish force, helped by joint Russian and Syrian air cover, liberated Military Base 55 in Northern Aleppo, consolidating the anti-militant pool’s grip on newly emancipated Aleppo-Ezaz road, which was the main supply route of militants in northern Syria’s territories near Turkish border.

Further tightening their grip over the region, the army forces kept on liberating other nearby sites from the militants’ hold, including two villages of Western Barad and Mara’naz, a mill and a car spare-parts factory in the region.

On Sunday the Syrian Army and Hezbollah fighters continued their advances in Aleppo province by taking back another key town following fierce clashes with foreign-backed terrorists.

Yesterday, strategic town of Ta’ana in the Eastern part of Aleppo province came under the Syrian Army’s full control today. It is close to the industrial region of Sheikh Najjar.
The Syrian Army continued to advance towards Tal Rafat in Northern Aleppo. They and popular forces took full control of a strategic hilltop in the Eastern countryside of Aleppo city on Sunday.

Syrian Army tanks, taking on Takfiri terrorists’ lines in Aleppo province, managed to push back the militants further in a strategic town in the province and cut off ISIL’s transfer and supply routes in the region.

“The pro-government forces, during an intensive operation to recapture the town of Mayer, cut off the Ezaz-Aleppo road by winning back the town; therefore, the road, which was formerly controlled by the Takfiri militants to transfer their forces and hardware, has been effectively blocked by government forces and their allies,” informed sources announced.
Syrian Army troops drove the militant groups back from their main supply line near the border with Turkey and imposed full control over the highway.

The Syrian Army ultimately cut off the terrorist groups’ main supply route from the Turkish city of Gaziantep, marking the first time in nearly 3 years that they have had a presence along the Aleppo-Gaziantep Highway that stretches through the Aleppo province’s Northern countryside.

With the recent recapture of Ratyan and Mayer in Northern Aleppo, the Syrian Armed Forces have finally reached the Aleppo-Gaziantep Highway near the contested villages of Bayanoun, Kafr Naya, and Hayyan after an intense battle with the terrorists of Nusra Front, the Free Syrian Army, Jeish Al-Mujahiddeen, Harakat Nouriddeen al-Zinki, and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham.

Syrian Government Sends Military Aid to Kurds Fighting Terrorists in Hasaka Province

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian government has dispatched military and arms aid to the Kurds fighting the terrorists in the Northern part of Syria, Kurdish sources announced on Monday.
“Four military airplanes of the Syrian army carrying weapons and munitions for Kurdish fighters arrived in Qamishli Airport in Hasaka province on Sunday evening”.

The weapons have been delivered to the Kurdish fighters to begin their operations to win back the strategic al-Shadadi town back from ISIL terrorists.

In a relevant development earlier today, the Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) continued to advance against the militant groups in the Northern part of Aleppo province and freed another key village near Minaq military airbase.

The YPG forces stormed the militant groups’ strongholds in the village of Mar’anaz in the Southwestern part of the city of Azaz and took full control over the village and its surroundings.

Tens of militants were killed or wounded and their military grid also was damaged in the attack.

Also on Sunday, the YPG advanced towards the integral Minaq Military Airport in the rebel heartland, capturing the village of al-Alqamiyah after a violent battle with the terrorists of Ahrar Al-Sham and al-Shamiyah Front.

Several independent sources said the YPG enjoyed the Syrian and Russian air backup during the attack.

Over the last days, the YPG has taken advantage of the terrorist groups’ crumbling defense lines in the Northern part of Aleppo, seizing a number of villages like Ziyarah near the towns of al-Zahra and Nubl.

With al-Alqamiyah under their control, the YPG forces are in position to strike the Minaq Military Airport; thus, threatening the remaining terrorists’ defense lines in Northern Aleppo.

The terrorist groups have formed a coalition called Jeish al-Halab, which consists of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), al-Shamiyah Front, Jeish al-Islam, and Jeish Al-Mujahiddeen to combat the YPG and the Syrian army.
