General strike on Land Day

[ 05/03/2011 - 02:12 PM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Arab higher follow up committee in 1948 occupied Palestine has declared that a general and comprehensive strike would be observed on the 35th anniversary of the Land Day.

The committee said in a statement on Saturday that the anniversary this year falls at a time of escalating Israeli violations of Arab rights topped by confiscation of land, demolition of homes, displacement of families, and endorsement of racist laws.

It said that the central rally on the occasion would be held in Araba Al-Batuf village on the 30th of March.

It noted that other related rallies would be organized in Lod, Ramle, Yaffa, and Negev especially in Araqib village, in view of the Israeli concentration on those areas.

Other towns such as Sakhnin, Kufr Kana, and Wadi Ara would witness local rallies in commemoration of the anniversary and the martyrs of that day.

The committee said that the final program would be endorsed in the few coming days, adding that it would mobilize the Arab masses to participate in the strike and the rallies.

New Egypt PM At Tahrir Rally

New Egypt PM At Tahrir Rally

Essam Sharaf speaks to thousands of pro-democracy campaigners who had gathered in centre of Cairo after Friday prayers.

04 Mar 2011 18:04 GMT
"Al-Jazeera"

Essam Sharaf, the new Egyptian prime minister, has addressed a massive rally by pro-democracy campaigners in Cairo's Tahrir [Liberation] Square.

The square in the centre of the Egyptian capital was the focal point of anti-government protests that brought down Hosni Mubarak last month.

He appeared on the stage with Mohammed el-Beltagy, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Making a brief speech, Sharaf said the security apparatus - much hated by the people during Mukarak's rule - must work for the good of the people.

He told the cheering crowds that he had come "to draw legitimacy" from them, and said he will do whatever he can to respond to the revolution demands.
"I'm telling you, I came here because I've been assigned a big responsibility, a heavy burden, that requires patience and strong will. And there is no other place other than here than Tahrir, where we can extract this will and determination. We are with you," Sharaf told the crowds gathered in the square.

"You have achieved a big task and the bigger objective is to rebuild Egypt.

Please listen to me, I’m praying to God that I would see Egypt a free country where opinion is not captured in prison cells and see that the security of the citizen is a top priority. And that the security apparatus works for the good of the citizens and at the end I would like to say, please if you allow me, there are lots of demands that we are working on, but I would like to end my speech.

"I pray to god that may Almighty God has honoured me with more than I've asked for.  And I pray to God to help me to be able to deserve this position.  Please, raise your head up, you are an Egyptian.

"I take my goals from you, and I promise you, if I cannot fulfil those objectives, I will come and join you as a protester."

The rally held after Friday prayers was aimed at pressing the country's military rulers to deliver on their promises of reform.

"What is so iconic about this image and historic is that immediately adjacent to him is a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohammed el-Beltagy. Now that image would have been impossible to imagine just a few weeks ago," Al Jazeera's Ayman Mohyeldin, reporting from Tahrir, said.

"A senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood standing side-by-side with the current prime minister of Egypt addressing thousands of people ... Indeed it is a very historic moment."

Friday's demonstration came a day after the resignation of prime minister Ahmed Shafiq. Sharaf, a former transport minister, was subsequently named the the new prime minister by the military supreme council.

Shafiq's resignation had been one of the protesters' key demands after 18 days of mass rallies forced former president  Mubarak to step down on February 11.

'Vocal Critic'

Sharaf's appointment has been received well by ordinary Egyptians.

"Certainly he has earned a lot of street credibility with these protesters and more importantly with the political factions who had actually recommended his name to the military council as a potential replacement for the outgoing prime minister," Mohyeldin said.

"He was a very vocal critic of the regime and because he himself was seen as a protester when he didn't have any position of power, when he wasn't even considered as a potential prime minister, that certainly earned him a lot of respect."

Opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei, who returned to Egypt to join the protests after heading the Vienna-based UN nuclear agency, welcomed Shafiq's resignation.

"We are on the right track, I express my sincere appreciation to the Supreme Council of Armed Forces who have accepted the demand of the people," he wrote on the microblogging site Twitter.

Meanwhile on Friday, Antiquities Minister Zahi Hawass was quoted in Egyptian newspapers as saying he would not participate in the new government to be led by Sharaf.

Hawass has been a cabinet minister since January 31 when Mubarak named a new government led by Shafiq.

Hawass said he was no longer able to carry out his duties amid what he called a campaign against him by officials at his ministry.

Sharaf has been charged by the military council with forming a new cabinet.

The council had previously ordered the government to run the country's affairs for six months "or until the end of parliamentary and presidential elections".

IOF turn O. Jerusalem into closed military zone

[ 05/03/2011 - 10:06 AM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Friday turned the occupied Palestinian city of Jerusalem into a closed military zone and intensified their presence in the Old City and at the entrances to the Aqsa Mosque.

Natives from the holy city said that a large number of Israeli troops, mounted policemen, and border guards were deployed at the entrances of the Old City and the checkpoints between Jerusalem and the West Bank.

The troops checked the IDs of passersby and detained some young men for a short time. This Israeli security campaign was launched to prevent any intended protests following Friday prayers.

In another incident the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) ordered the displacement of two Jerusalemite families from their homes in Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem, in order to bring a Jewish settler to live in their place at the pretext he owns the lands these two houses were built on.

The Hebrew radio reported the evacuation decision was issued by the Israeli magistrates' court, west of Jerusalem, and noted that the Hebrew university owns part of these lands.

For its part, the Aqsa foundation for endowment and heritage said Thursday that a large number of Israeli troops and policemen carried out lately break-ins at the Aqsa Mosque and toured its premises.

The foundation warned that such Israeli moves are usually followed by malicious steps and plans against the holy Islamic Mosque.

It urged the Palestinian people in the holy city and the 1948 occupied lands to frequent the Aqsa Mosque, describing the repeated visits to the Mosque as the safety valve that would protect it against any Israeli schemes targeting it.

Egyptian prosecution to finalize probe into corrupt gas deal with Israel

[ 05/03/2011 - 09:53 AM ]

CAIRO, (PIC)-- Egypt's Supreme State Security Prosecution is finalizing investigations with former minister of petroleum Sameh Fahmi after complaints filed against him for wasting public funds in oil export deals with Israel and six other countries in Europe.

Investigations revealed the top secret gas deal with Israel was costing Egypt USD 13.5m a day, with a daily commission of USD 3m distributed between corrupt members of the ministry.

Hisham Badawi, leading the investigations, has summoned Sameh Fahmi on Thursday and requested that the session be put back to Saturday to submit documents that confirm his position.

According to memoranda received by the prosecutor, the income received by Egypt from gas exports to Israel was no more than USD 146m annually, while it imported cooking gas at about USD 3 billion yearly.

The administrative court ruled on 18 November 2009 to suspend the gas trade decision with Israel, but former petroleum minister Sameh Fahmi did not comply with the decision.

The investigations are expected to expose those involved in the first corrupt deal in the history of the ministry of petroleum.

Jewish Dissidents want regime change in Moscow

Posted on March 5, 2011 by rehmat1|
Russian Jewish dissidents living in exile in the West and Israel are running a campaign for the ouster of Russian-strongman, Vladimir Putin. The campaign is financed by Jewish billionares, who were squeezed out of Russia by Putin to the great delight of the Russian public. The Americans Jeffrey Sachs, Andrei Schleifer, Robert Rubin, Larry Summers and the Russians Yegor Gaidar, Anatoly Chubais who played a major part in introducing capitalism in the USSR were all Jewish.

Turkey’s American-born ‘Islamophobe’ neocon author and writer, Claire Berlinski (married to German Jewish writer David Berlinski), who wrote in September 2010 that Mavi Marmara, which was attacked by Jewish thugs on May 31, 2010, murdering nine Turk aid workers – had nothing to do with humanitarian work. “They (Turk) do not know that there were no humanitarian supplies on the Mavi Marmara. They do not know the most rudimentary facts about Hamas. As one man said: “These are elected people. It’s not like they took over by force, via a coup”.

Last year Claire Berlinski writing for the neocon think tank Manhattan Institute (founded by former CIA director William J. Casey in 1978) City Journal (Spring 2010) had painted Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin being an ‘anti-Semite’ for discriminating wealthy Russian Jewish oligarchs. In her article entitled A Hidden History of Evil, she shows her self-denying Zionist nature once again.

“In the world’s collective consciousness, the word “Nazi” is synonymous with evil. It is widely understood that the Nazis’ ideology – nationalism, anti-Semitism, the autarkic ethnic state, the Führer principle – led directly to the furnaces of Auschwitz. It is not nearly as well understood that Communism led just as inexorably, everywhere on the globe where it was applied, to starvation, torture, and slave-labor camps,” she began her article with this rant.

YES – the word “Nazi” is synonymous with evil – not because the Nazis (150,000 German Jews among them) killed millions of Gypsies and Christians, but because they also killed (far less) Jews. The Zionist Jews with the help of Zionist Christians – divided Arab Palestine based on Jewish nationality and ethnicity. As far as communism is concerned – one doesn’t need a PhD to know that its founder Karl Marx was a Jew; Russia’s first President after Communist Revolution, Yakov Sverdlov, was Jewish and both of Russian dictatators Lenin and Stalin, who were responsible for the extermination of between 60-100 million Russian and Ukrainian Christian and Muslims, were also Jewish. The current Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, allegedly has Jewish family roots too. On July 2, 2010, Medvedev visited registary office in the Jewish autonomous region of Birobidjan (may be looking for his Jewish ancestry), the first Jewish state created by dictator Joseph Stalin in 1934.

Claire Berlinski then try to exonerates two Jewish dissidents, Pavel Stroilov and Vladimir Bukovsky, among the many oligarchs of their criminal records. Stroilov, according to her has the records of Russia’s true history which is different from what is told by the Russian press. However, she wants the readers to use Israel as ‘barometer’- that’s ‘what is good for Israel, is good for the world’. She narrates Stroilov’s record of conversation between USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev and Syrian President Hafiz Assad, which reminds me the talk between President Richard Nixon and Rev. Billy Graham about the Jewish evil power in America.

“Israel’s approach is different, because the Judaic religion itself states: the land of Israel spreads from Nile to Euphrates and its return is a divine predestination,” Assad told Gorbachev to which Gorbachev responded: “But this is racism, combined with Messianism!” So, that makes Russia an evil imperial power, right!
Interestingly, the 1998 MSNBC’s list of ‘Russia’s Robber Barons: the Twelve Men who Own Russia’s Economy’ - eight were Jewish billionaires. Boris Berezovsky, Vladimir Gusinsky, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Vitali Malkin, Mikhail Fridman, Alexander Smolensky, Vladimir Vinogradov, and Anatoly Chubais have boasted their ‘Jewishness’ publically. The seven Oligarchs, Boris Berezovsky, Vladimir Gusinsky, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Mikhail Fridman, Alexander Smolensky, and Pyotr Aven and Vladimir Potanin, had all backed Boris Yeltsin with money and media support in the past.

Let us not forget Semyon Mogilevich, a Ukraine-born Jewish billionaire with Israeli passport who is believed by law enforcement agencies to be ’boss of bosses‘ of most of Jewish Russian mafias in the world.

Israel pondering means of protecting its soldiers from prosecution abroad

[ 05/03/2011 - 08:54 AM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- An Israeli think tank has been formed to discuss new ways to protect Israeli officers and soldiers from prosecution abroad for crimes against Palestinians.

The move came in the wake of an internet list containing nearly 200 Israeli war criminals.

According to Haaretz on Friday, the think tank in the Operations Division of the General Staff is especially designed to protect officers involved in future battles in the vicinity of civilians, whether in Palestinian territories or in southern Lebanon.

Ideas included imposing a ban on releasing the names of officers between the levels of company commander and brigade commander. But the idea received opposition inside the army and was considered nearly impossible.

The Beacon that Is Israel: Self-serving by Delay and Denial

Dr. William A. Cook Salem-News.com
“Calls for democracy … stem from …an inner hunger for freedom.” - Tzipi Livni, Washington Post, 2/24/11

From a hill just outside the Gaza Strip, Israelis watch the air
assaults on Gaza and dance in celebration of the attacks,
8 January 2009. (Newscom)
(LAVERNE, Calif.) - A beacon is a signal fire, a warning light to guide one out of darkness; as the former Foreign Affairs Minister for Israel noted in late February, “These are days of momentous change in the Middle East …”

Courageous thousands demand their rights as human beings, she intones, there is an inner hunger for freedom abroad in the land. But those courageous thousands have lit a fire that is a beacon for Israel, if it heeds it, a warning that it alone of all the states in the Middle East could be left defying the peoples’ demands for human rights and freedoms.
Yet Livni, and Edward Koch last week, went to the media not to announce that Israel would alter its treatment of the Palestinians, they simply ignored the existence of the Palestinians; in the words of Edward Koch, “These uprisings clearly demonstrate that it is not the issue of Israel that is rocking the Arab world, but the presence of arbitrary and repressive regimes.” (Newsmax.com, 3/1/11).

How convenient. Israel alone stands immune from the repression and arbitrary policies of the abusive regimes that face the multitudes in the streets. Indeed, Livni charitably intones that “The values and experiences of the Jewish people demand that we embrace the promise of real democratic change, not merely express concern about uncertainties associated with it.”

Certainly in these uncertain times Israel can be a beacon to warn those who have an “inner hunger for freedom” that there are dues to pay before they can be granted such freedoms because “world leaders are required to shape events so that our collective aspirations, rather than our fears, become reality.”

Artwork by the amazing Artist Carlos Latuff, friend
of Salem-News.com, in Rio de Janeiro
Translated, Livni on behalf of Israel takes on the mantle of a world leader who, together with other democratic nations like the U.S., must guide the nations of the world through these perilous waters of upheaval by designing a “democratic code” to ensure that new democracies adhere to the Israeli/United States dictates. How convenient and how duplicitous.

It’s obvious now that Israel and its Golem, the United States, have entered the lists of this new world order, thrust on them by forces they did not anticipate, created in the streets of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, Algeria, and Lebanon, with lances drawn and swords displayed. Their response remains, as always, military might exposed for the world to see bolstered by policies of delay and coercion seeded by fear of instability and uncertainty. They remain the only two powers capable of bringing stability to the region even if it must be done by establishing new dictators sympathetic to their interests.

To achieve their ends, the Israelis and the Obama administration have sent their legions around the world to control discussions of the impending changes and response to them. Two major thrusts emerge as guidelines for control: delay and denial. Delay takes the form of concern for the “inner hunger” that must be fed with care that the wolf at the door (read Muslim Brotherhood or al Qaeda) doesn’t devour the food (read freedoms), because not enough time was devoted to preparation for “real” democratic reforms.

“The free world has long recognized that democracy is about values before it is about voting,” says Livni silently passing over Israel’s destruction of its neighbors as it demonstrates to the world how “real” democracies operate by occupation and repression. As an example of values, Livni notes that “In Israel parties are ineligible to participate in elections if their platform embraces racist or anti-democratic doctrines.”
Denial takes the form of omission: she failed to remark on Avigdor Leiberman’s comment, Head of the Yisrael Beiteinu Party, an essential component of the present Netanyahu government, describing Arab members of the Knesset that meet with Hamas as "terror collaborators", (and) called for their execution: "World War II ended with the Nuremburg Trials. The heads of the Nazi regime, along with their collaborators, were executed. I hope this will be the fate of the collaborators in [the Knesset]." (Wikipedia). So much for no racism or anti-democratic actions on the part of members of Israel’s government.
Stranger than fiction Order Now
But it’s not only Livni and Koch in the newsrooms to promote delay.

Ha’aretz carried an article by Dr. Emily Landau and Dr. Carlo Masala that noted “…the West has forgotten how long the road to democratization can really be.” It can only happen when its population “embraces the concepts of tolerance and the protection of minority rights.”
Here too, of course, the denial continues: they fail to mention Israel’s founding on May 14 of 1948, a simple declaration by the Zionist consultancy issued through the Jewish Agency that the Jews declared Israel as their state; not even the UNSC was involved as the Partition Plan composed by a committee of the UN never made it to that body.

That was not a long process unless one wants to use the terrorists of the clandestine Jewish Agency and its armies that went to war against the British Mandate government as preparation for a democracy. Nor did they mention Israel’s denial of minority rights as Occupiers of another people under International Law.
Then there is the delay caused by the Palestinians who refuse to engage in peace talks, not because Israel refused to stop the building of settlements, even with Obama’s bribe as an inducement, but because they desire to thwart Israel’s “eagerness to return to the negotiating table” by going directly to the UN to force a vote on acceptance of a Palestinian State, what Joel Mowbray calls the “Palestinian Smoke Screen” reported in the Washington Times.

The Plight of the Palestinians: a Long History of Destruction is a collection of voices from around the world that establishes in both theoretical and graphic terms the slow, methodical genocide taking place in Palestine beginning in the 1940s, as revealed in the Introduction. From Dr. Francis A. Boyle’s detailed legal case against the state of Israel, to Uri Avnery’s “Slow Motion Ethnic Cleansing,” to Richard Falk’s “Slouching toward a Palestinian Holocaust,” to Ilan Pappe’s “Genocide in Gaza,” these voices decry in startling, vivid, and forceful language the calculated atrocities taking place, the inhumane conditions inflicted on the people, and the silence that exists despite the crimes, nothing short of state-sponsored genocide against the Palestinians.

Hamas along other factions to come up with initiative for national unity

[ 05/03/2011 - 08:25 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Hamas Movement said it is embarking on preparing an initiative with the participation of all Palestinian factions and forces to find a way out of the inter-Palestinian impasse and achieve the national reconciliation.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a press statement to Palestine Now website that the initiative calls for embodying a genuine political partnership, protecting the national constants and rebuilding the Palestine liberation organization (PLO).

Spokesman Barhoum accused Fatah faction of exporting its internal crises through making press announcements about alleged initiatives without directly talking to Hamas about them.

He also denied that his Movement received an initiative on ending the internal division from Salam Fayyad, noting that Fayyad does not represent any Palestinian party in order for Hamas to accept from him any overture.

The spokesman pointed out in another context that Hamas was able to establish contacts with the ruling military council in Egypt after the downfall of Hosni Mubarak's regime, expressing hope that the relations between Hamas and Cairo would improve in the coming days.

In a related context, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri stated that his Movement welcomes any move made by the Palestinian youth to end the division, achieve the reconciliation and protect the national constants.

Spokesman Abu Zhuri made his remarks during a symposium held on Thursday by the federation of youth organizations in the Gaza Strip.

"Hamas blesses these efforts and is not afraid of them because it came to power through the popular will and the ballot box," the spokesman highlighted in his speech.

The youth committee of national unity on Wednesday launched an initiative calling for pooling the Palestinian efforts in order to heal the internal rift, protect the national constants and rights, and end the Israeli occupation.

CRIMINALIZING THE TRUTH TELLERS – AN ANALYSIS BY DR. LAWRENCE DAVIDSON

05. Mar, 2011
Dr. Lawrence Davidson
Part I
Image: getaddictedto.com

There is no doubt that Julian Assange, the head of the Wikileaks organization, and Bradley Manning, the soldier who allegedly leaked U.S. classified documents, are being singled out and made examples of by the Obama administration. Their suffering constitutes a message which goes like this: if you inform the public of what the United States government is doing, no matter how illegal and disgusting it might be, our police and intelligence agencies will track you down and turn your life into hell. We will do that to you whether we can prove you committed a crime or not (as in the case of Assange) and we will do it to you even if it runs counter to our own legal codes (as in the case of Manning).

That is why Julian Assange is hold up in a British home under virtual house arrest devoting most of his energy to avoiding extradition to Sweden on what is almost certainly an exaggerated charge of sexual misconduct. The Swedes are cooperating with Washington and if Assange is extradited there he may well end up in the U.S. where, despite having not been charged with a crime, various politicians and talking heads have called for “punishment” of the most draconian sort. And it is not just Assange. Most of those involved with Wikileaks have been reduced to fear and trembling. As Glenn Greenwald puts it, “all of them, to a person, no matter what their nationality is, the thing they fear most is ending up in the hands of American authorities and in the American…justice system.” Greenwald notes the irony of it all. For the truth tellers, the land of the free has become a land of justice denied.

And, speaking of draconian punishment and justice denied, Bradley Manning who, for the past nine months, has been in incarcerated in the brig at Marine base in Quantico Virginia, is subject to treatment that is certainly cruel and unusual and thus illegal. He is in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day. In the 24th hour he is taken into another room where he can walk about shackled. This is for exercise. If he stops walking at any time during this hour he is immediately returned to his cell. Periodically he is put under constant surveillance because the military says he is potentially suicidal. How did he get that way? He was not suicidal upon his arrest. If in fact he is suicidal now it probably because the U.S. military has subjected him to conditions that drove him in that direction. The Commandant at Quantico has apparently seen fit to turn his brig into a stateside version of one of those infamous black hole detention facilities used by the CIA. The ones in which the Bush gang conducted “torture by proxy.” At Quantico we have decided to torture Bradley Manning ourselves.

Sadly, all of this is being done on Barack Obama’s watch. Yes, the President has defended Gay rights both in military and civilian society, and he has pushed for the employment of people with disabilities. However, when it comes to the federal government’s actions in violation of its own laws, he has refused to interfere or punish. This has produced the most startling juxtapositions. The U.S. government can lie to its people and start a war on that basis that kills millions of people (the ultimate crime according to the Nuremberg trials) and Obama will not investigate and will not prosecute. He will in fact do worse than nothing, as when he put pressure on Spain to cancel its own investigation of crimes against international law under the Bush administration. But, if someone like Bradley Manning defies the American code of secrecy and reveals the truth, President Obama will allow him to be driven half mad and charged with “aiding the enemy” which carries the death penalty. But wait a minute. If your war is based on lies and manipulation and a good deal of official stupidity, it logically follows that the “enemy” is a contrived one. Under those circumstances does the charge of aiding such an enemy make any sense? Well, it makes sense if government secrecy has kept everyone mostly ignorant of the lies and other machinations. All of this makes you wonder how the man in the Oval Office sleeps at night.

Part II
And what about the rest of us? President Obama is not doing these things alone. What is happening to Julian Assange and Bradley Manning requires the cooperation or acquiescence of at least two additional groups.
1) The first group is made up of those employed to carry out the draconian measures now being practiced. You do not have to be familiar with the sociologist Max Weber to figure out how such people can do what they do, largely with impunity. They are mostly bureaucrats and bureaucracies have evolved so as to hide responsibility. President Harry Truman once reacted to this fact by putting a sign in his office that said “the buck stops here.” In other words, buried in organizations with layers of authority, are anonymous millions who can always claim that they are “just following orders.” And, as a number of psychological studies have shown, most of us do in fact “just follow orders” especially if we are enmeshed in a peer group which is doing likewise. To this might be added the fact that there is always a sub-group of order takers who get their adrenalin highs from hurting others (every combat platoon has one or more of these). They are the ubiquitous torturers, abusive prison guards, and lower echelon thugs that find employment with all governments, including Washington. They were particularly active under the Bush regime. To be sure there are laws against acting in a criminal fashion, even as a member of a government department. However, if your illegal actions are officially sanctioned, you are almost certain to get away with it. One will recall that the Bush gang, from top to bottom, is protected from prosecution by President Obama. Problems only develop when someone “blows the whistle” in a very public way. It is interesting that in such cases, more often than not, it is the “whistle blower who gets punished, and not the criminals. Assange and Manning are good examples of this.

2) The second group is the citizenry at large. Particularly in a democracy like the United States, these grossly inhumane acts by government officials are harder to carry on if the public knows about them and strongly objects. So there are two qualifiers here: a) if the public knows and b) if the public objects.
a) Secrecy, along with a less than aggressive media, is the way the American government attempts to assure that its own citizens do not know of its illegal doings. Until the age of the Internet this was relatively easy to do. Most of the privately owned media outlets are either whole heartedly conservative in outlook, and thus share the government’s attitude toward secrecy, or they are scared of the legal complications and bad publicity the government can cause them. There have been times in recent history when some news companies have acted in aggressive ways to assert the public’s right to know (one thinks of the Washington Post at the time of the Watergate scandal) but the present day is not one of them. This is demonstrated by the fact that there has been no concerted effort on the part of the American media to defend Julian Assange, much less Bradley Manning. The combination of a government addicted to secrecy and news businesses that are essentially castrated means that what the public knows is what the government and its media allies tell it. So, unless someone breaches the walls of this system, either by doing something incredibly stupid, such as torturing prisoners at Abu Gharib while being photographed, or something incredibly brave, such as making public thousands of incriminating government documents, the citizenry will know little.

b) However, there is the second factor and that is objecting if you do happen to learn that something is amiss. One cannot assume that such objection comes automatically. Most people are so engrossed in their private lives that they do not pay attention to what the government is doing, particularly what it is doing abroad. They are more than willing to give Washington the benefit of the doubt unless the media aggressively asserts otherwise. So, when Obama says he will not allow for an official investigation of the Bush gang is there a public outcry? No. For that matter, if Washington quietly dropped all the charges against Bradford Manning and Fox News failed to go ballistic over the issue, would their be a public outcry? No. In the absence of an aggressive media to stir the pot and keep the citizenry focused, the default position of the majority is always a local one. In other words, if it does not impact my life, I am not going to pay attention unless you make me do so.
Part III
It may well be that the U.S. government has already achieved its goal when it comes to Julian Assange and Bradley Manning. It has created an atmosphere of fear and trembling so as to reduce the probability that anyone else will soon come along and replicate their behavior. In this effort law and due process mean nothing to either the President, the men and women who carry out his orders, or the citizens who go about their daily affairs with only minimal awareness that these two individuals are being harassed and tortured in their country’s name. It is a sad, but hardly unique, situation. It makes one nostalgic for those days in the 1960s when there was a another war based on lies, but also an aggressively skeptical media and a military draft that impacted lots of citizens’ lives. It is no mistake that this combination, one that indeed got the American masses into the streets, is missing today.

Removing a 'cult' from the US 'terror list ... against all Iranians!

Via Friday-Lunch-Club

"... Iran's opposition may be in store for another blow - this time, at the hands of those in Washington who profess to support their cause.
A newly fashionable foolishness in Washington is public advocacy by leading establishment figures on behalf of Iran's Mujahedeen e-Khalq (MEK), which has since 1997 been on the State Department's list of foreign terror organizations. It may be a radical group founded from a mix of Marxist and Islamist ideas, which the State Department says killed Americans working in Iran in the 1970s and which served as an adjunct to Saddam Hussein -- and it may function as a cult, according to the RAND Corporation, with many members forced to remain in the organization against their will -- but the campaign to take it off the State Department's "terrorist" list unites longtime neocon ideologues, former U.S. military and security officials, Republican presidential hopefuls and now a growing number of senior Democratic foreign policy mavens....
When the U.S. occupied Iraq in 2003, the fate of the MEK became an American problem. While the Bush Administration, in line with the terrorist designation and commitments to Iran, undertook to close the camp, it hedged on the issue as more hawkish elements in and around the Administration lobbied furiously for the MEK to be supported as a proxy force to wage war against Iran -- you know, just like Saddam had done.... a desire to seek regime change on the cheap....
... the problem with Washington's new MEK fantasy is that -- like its fascination with the Iraqi exile Ahmed Chalabi who nine years ago convinced American leaders that their troops would be greeted by Iraqis with "sweets and flowers" -- it is failing to notice the obvious: Just as the CIA used to joke that Chalabi was far more influential along the Potomac than he was along the Tigris, so are the new crowd of MEK converts ignoring the fact that the MEK is detested not only by Iran's regime, but also by the very opposition movement that has challenged the regime in the streets.
When the Green Movement took to the streets took to challenge the regime in the wake of Iran's contested 2009 presidential election,  the regime sought to portray the MEK as behind the movement, in order to discredit it in the eyes of ordinary Iranians.
Former presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi was having none of it, branding the MEK a "hypocritical and dead organization". Fellow Green Movement leader Zahra Rahnavard, wife of Mir Hussein Moussavi, was even more forthright in an interview with a Farsi news outlet last year: "This government has tried to revive the MEK by associating it with the Green Movement, which again is a very funny notion because the Green Movement is a people's movement that is alive and dynamic and holds a very red wall between itself and the MEK."
Tehran-based journalist Jason Rezaian  writes that the hostility is based on the MEK having fought for Saddam Hussein in a war that left hundreds of thousand of Iranians dead or maimed. It's regarded in the same way that Americans view John Walker Lindh. "There are still thousands, perhaps millions, of Iranians completely willing to speak openly about their attitudes on the 2009 election," Rezaian writes, "but good luck finding a single person who is pro-MEK."......
That view is echoed by Michael Rubin in Commentary magazine, proving that not all neocons share the enthusiasm of some for the MEK. "There is no doubt that the [MEK] has targeted Americans, and no amount of slick public relations should erase that. During my time in Iran, it was clear that while Iranians respect the United States and have little good to say about their own government, they all detest the [MEK]... One thing is certain: embracing the [MEK] is the surest way to make anti-American the 65 million Iranians who dislike their government and dislike theocracy."..."

Hayya: Ballot boxes do not scare Hamas

[ 05/03/2011 - 07:09 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya said Friday that ”ballot boxes do not scare Hamas”, referring to elections called for by the PLO due this September.

The statement came during a march called for by Hamas Friday afternoon that included Hamas leaders, Palestinian Legislative Council members, Palestinian government officials and tens of thousands of Palestinians chanting ”the people want an end to the Israeli occupation”.

”The ballot boxes do not scare Hamas. Hamas is in every house, and every soul, and every heart, and every street. It has its will, its gun, its martyrs, and it has its constants, and it does not fear the ballot boxes, ever,” Hayya said.

Hamas has opposed a decision for presidential and legislative elections made by the PLO, saying the national split must be ended before a vote can be taken.

Hayya said Hamas is sincere in calls to end the split. ”The causes of the split must be ended from their roots,” adding that the Palestinians must have leaders they trust.

”Neighboring people have only revolted against their regimes after these regimes had betrayed them,” Hayya said. ”The split will end when we have one leadership trusted with our constants, our prisoners, our martyrs and committed to Jerusalem and the refugees.”

Hayya also called for an end to the siege on Gaza. He said addressing those responsible for the siege, ”Have you no shame?! Has the time not come to end the siege and open the border crossings to import medicines, building materials and funds to rebuild what the occupation [Israel] destroyed.”

Addressing Egyptian leadership, he said: ”We hope you open the Rafah crossing and allow the Palestinians to travel. Brothers in Egypt, open the Rafah border crossing as both you and we want.”

Thousands chanted during the popular march ”the people want an end to the occupation, the people want an end to Israel, the people want an end to the siege, the people want an end to the split, the people want commitment to constants....the Egyptian army and Gaza are brothers and friends.”

Warning: boycott Israel success brings “Boycott Arab goods” smear

By Stuart Littlewood

5 March 2011

Stuart Littlewood reports on a cheap disinformation ploy employed lately by Israeli “cyber warriors” unhinged by the success of the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against the Jewish apartheid state.

Congratulations, BDS campaigners.

Your global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions effort is hurting Israel so much that panic-stricken propaganda bosses are casting about in desperation for something to hit back with, for example, the libellous press release which portrays yours truly and other Palestine freedom campaigners as promoters of a new movement boycotting Arab goods.

This tissue of lies arrived the same day as news that Israel is spending 1.6 million US dollars to train "new media warriors" in the use of social media tools for disseminating the regime's endless stream of disinformation. Of course, it’s nothing new. Israel's Ministry of Dirty Tricks launched a revised training manual 18 months ago to serve as a communications primer for the army of cyber-scribblers it was then recruiting to spread Zionism's poison across the internet.

According to the lie machine, I addressed hundreds of Muslim Britons in front of the Libyan embassy in central London and "excoriated the Arab and Iranian regimes for plundering their countries of their wealth and depriving their people of their basic human rights". And I upbraided them for "their entrenched system of apartheid".

The Zionist “media warrior” who thought up this garbage writes that my fictitious new organization – Britons for Boycotting Arab and Iranian Goods (BBAIG) – has demanded that all UK importers immediately terminate their contracts with Arab countries, and that I'm claiming "the UK public is supporting our initiative until the vicious dictatorships of the Arab Middle East and Iran are overthrown and their civilian populations are finally endowed with classical democracy".

Not that Zionists know anything about classical democracy. Rabid ethnocracy is more their thing.

Also targeted, and dubbed a co-founder of the imaginary BBAIG, is Dr Ghada Karmi of Exeter University, whom they describe as "a crusader for the seething Arab population of Gaza and the West Bank". The public are supposed to believe that she is threatening the illegitimate Muslim government leaders of the Middle East with arrest warrants should they set foot on British soil or seek asylum here. "Under Britain's laws of universal jurisdiction, war criminals and their genocidal ilk are liable to arrest upon the deposition of a citizen's complaint before a UK magistrate."

Well, not any more actually. Israel's “heavies” put pressure on British government wimps a year ago and our universal jurisdiction laws are being watered down on Tel Aviv’s instructions to provide a safe haven for the world’s war crimes riff-raff who qualify as friends of Whitehall and specifically Israel's psychopaths.

Dr Karmi is reported to have "cast aside her life-time enmity towards Israel and pleaded with the Jewish state to invade Syria and Iran and wipe out their respective feudal ruling classes".

Lawyer Daniel Machover and Sarah Colborne of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, which leads numerous BDS campaigns, are also named in this wild fiction.

Attempting to strike fear into our hearts the press release contains a footnote saying: "Guaranteed Distribution to 330,000 media, government and NGO activists around the world via internet, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace." The bogus story has managed to surface on a couple of sites, but all activists (and editors) need to be alert to the new tactic.

Just for the record I haven’t been in London for months, and I’ve never met Dr Karmi. However, she emailed to say: “Why not use it to let people know about this latest idiocy?” Agreed.

Truth is fatal to Israel’s vile ambition. Its propagandists can only peddle lies. For them the challenge is finding new avenues for their dishonesty and fevered imagination.

But at least they keep us amused.

Dwaik: Fatah authority flip-flopping; hard to deal with

[ 04/03/2011 - 08:44 PM ]

WEST BANK, (PIC)-- Dr. Aziz Dwaik, the speaker of the Palestinian parliament said on Thursday that the Fatah authority in Ramallah is now flip-flopping now in the absence of the forces that used to support it in the region.

In an interview with the daily Palestine newspaper published on Thursday, the PLC speaker pointed out that it was difficult to talk with Fatah and to know what it wants due to many contradicting voices within it.

"How could we talk to them when one Fatah official comes out to say no to Hamas and no to all other factions, while the second says we are ready to talk to Hamas and take all its reservations into consideration, a third calling for elections, while a fourth says no to elections, we really don’t know what they want", Dwaik said in the interview.

He also added that it is about time for the PA in Ramallah to reconcile with the Palestinian people after it betrayed them and ignored their national constants and aspirations as evident to the documents leaked by Al-Jazeera satellite TV channel recently.

He also reiterated that Hamas was and still is keen on ending the political rift and to restore national unity, describing it as strategic option for Hamas.

"The PA in Ramallah has to choose between returning back to the Palestinian mainstream and the square of resistance or throw itself in the lap of the occupation", Dwaik highlighted, adding that returning to the Palestinian people mainstream would immediately achieve national reconciliation.

Moreover, Dwaik urged Fatah leaders to review their past and look how they were before, and how they and their movement have become.

"In Fatah you can find the Aqsa martyrs Brigades, you find the honorable people, and you also can find those who compromised the national constants of the Palestinian people and allied themselves with the Zionist enemy although I'am convinced that those who compromised aren’t from Fatah but those who ride on it" Dwaik underlined, adding that Fatah now working against the interests of the Palestinian people.

"Any nation that seeks freedom should sacrifice, and as we see now our region is experiencing a state of liberation and freedom and I believe that the Palestinian people is also part of the region and part of the experience", he underscored.

Fatah asks Abbas to fire corrupt Fayyad ...

Chief PA comptroller says Fayyad is corrupt

[ 04/03/2011 - 07:46 PM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Mahmoud Abu Al-Rub, the PA comptroller, has uncovered Thursday that Salam Fayyad made a number of transactions that squandered millions of dollars from the money of the Palestinian people.

Sources close to Abu Al-Rub revealed that he submitted a report to the de facto PA chief Mahmoud Abbas about Fayyad's corrupt transactions including the deal in which Fayyadh agreed to pay 50 million dollars to Zionist occupation soldiers killed in Palestinian resistance attacks in 1996.

According to the report of Abu Al-Rub, Fayyad considered reducing the compensation from 150 million dollars to 50 million "only" as a victory for him and his illegitimate government.

5000 armed members of the Aqsa Brigades (Fatah) were receiving salaries under the category “hunted Fatah members”. Fayyad was supposed to integrate all those fighters into PA security forces, but he left 1000 of them, mostly from Nablus, out of the forces and he still pays them salaries in what seems to be an attempt by Fayyad to have his own private militia as well as buying the loyalty of officers in the security forces with large sums of money and undeserved promotions.

Abu Al-Rub said in his report that such so called salaries were in fact bribes to buy loyalty and urged Abbas not to give the portfolio of finance to Fayyadh in order to reduce corruption in the PA despite Fayyadh's insistence on keeping the portfolio in his hand relying on the Israeli, EU, and US support for him in this regard.

"friday-lunch-club"

(Reuters)- "... The letter, signed by senior Fatah officials, was sent to Abbas on Saturday, but the president "did not take it seriously", a Fatah official told Reuters....  the request underlined deep political friction at the heart of the Palestinian Authority, with many Fatah activists clearly frustrated by Fayyad, ...as prime minister he controls finances and security, leaving many Fatah members to complain bitterly in private that his high-profile activities are overshadowing their own work..."

The religion of an ennemy

Frustrated Arab's Diary

http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scentedsalamander/alhambra-Garden.jpg

Look what Islam
and those Arabs
have once done to (Spain) Europe !!

The West would like to blame the Arabs for being Muslims ,
as if Islam were to be a disadvantage
or some kind of a social-failure.

What would happen if and when
we Arabs shall,one day,
start to  blame the Israelis for being all Jews  ???
or  to blame the Colonialists for being all Christians  ???

Let us compare and evaluate
what did  Islam contribute to the whole of humanity
and simultaneously ,
to analyse the role of Judaism and the Jews on this planet  ??

I leave this assessment to each of you,
objectively and individually.

But  would like to ask you,
if reiincarnation does exist ,
whether you would like,
to be re-born as a Jew or as a Muslim  ???
or ,you would like to be re-born ,
as an  Israeli or as an Arab-Palestinian ??

born happily as an Arab-Christian in a Muslim-Arab-society.
