Shameless Wall Street Journal Ad Denies Ottoman Turkish Armenian Genocide
Ottoman Empire 1915 – 1922 genocide against Armenians in their historic homeland massacred around 1.5 million victims.
Turkey remains in denial of an indisputable historic fact. Journal management disgracefully published a full-page ad, intended to deceive, sponsored by FactCheckArmenia, a shameless genocide denial group.
Its web site airbrushes disturbing facts from history, twisting and reinventing them, claiming no genocide occurred, at the same time accusing Armenians during WW I of treason against the Ottoman Empire – blaming their victimized people for war waged by the great powers.
A WSJ spokesman’s explanation of why the publication ran the ad fell flat, saying:
“We accept a wide range of advertisements, including those with provocative viewpoints. While we review ad copy for issues of taste, the varied and divergent views expressed belong to the advertisers.”
On May 28, 1948, the UN War Crimes Commission prepared a report on “The Massacres of the Armenians in Turkey,” saying:
On May 28, 1915, France, Britain and Russia denounced Turkey’s “crimes against humanity and civilization.” A key passage reads:
“In the presence of these new crimes of Turkey against humanity and the civilization, the allied Governments (know) that they will be held personally responsible for the so-called crimes of all members of the Ottoman Government as well as those of the officers who would be involved in such massacres.”
The never ratified 1920 peace Treaty of Sevres with Turkey required it “hand over to the Allied Powers the persons responsible for the massacres committed during the continuance of the state of war on territory which formed part of the Turkish Empire on the 1st August 1914.”
The Treaty of Lausanne (July 23, 1923) replaced it. Genocidal crimes were excluded. A “Declaration of Amnesty” was declared for all offenses committed from August 1, 1914 – November 20, 1922.
In 1914, over 2.5 million Armenians lived in Ottoman Turkey. Today 75,000 at most remain, mostly in Istanbul and Western areas. The Eastern Armenian heartland was decimated.
In April 1915, hundreds of Armenian religious, political and intellectual leaders were arrested, detained or exiled. Most were systematically murdered.
By summer, about 250,000 Ottoman army Armenians were placed in forced labor battalions. They were over-worked, starved, or executed.
Without leaders or able-bodied youths, ethnic cleansing occurred throughout Ottoman Turkey and Asia Minor.
Death marches followed. Men and older boys were separated and executed, women and children force-marched, raped, tortured, and otherwise abused. Most deportees died of starvation, disease, or massacres.
About 500,000 escaped to Russia, Arab countries, Europe or America. Ottoman Armenia was virtually eliminated.
Turkey’s denial of cold, hard facts can’t refute one of history’s great crimes – slow-motion genocide against its Kurdish population ongoing under Erdogan.

Summary
Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law in the oPt continued during the reporting period (14 – 20 April 2016).
Shooting:
Israeli forces have continued to commit crimes, inflicting civilian casualties. They have also continued to use excessive force against Palestinian civilians participating in peaceful protests in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the majority of whom were youngsters. During the reporting period, Israeli forces killed a Palestinian civilian from al-‘Aroub refugee camp, north of Hebron and wounded 12 Palestinian civilians; one of whom was wounded in the West Bank, 8 were wounded in the West Bank and the 3 others were wounded in the Gaza Strip. Moreover, a Palestinian woman was wounded due to the explosion of a suspicious object of the Israeli military remnants.
In the West Bank, in a new crime of excessive use of force, on 14 April 2016, Israeli forces killed Ibrahim Abu ‘Ayyash (54) from al-‘Aroub refugee camp, north of Hebron. Israeli forces claimed that Abu ‘Ayyash was carrying a sharp tool and heading towards the Israeli soldiers stationed at the camp entrance. His corpse was taken by an Israeli Magen David Adom (MDA) to an unknown destination after the Palestinian medical crews were denied access to him. On the following day afternoon, the corpse was handed to the Palestinian military liaison, and his funeral procession was held in the camp.
On 14 April 2016, a Palestinian boy was wounded when Israeli forces moved into East Barta’ah village, west of Jenin. They surrounded two different facilities in a prelude to demolish them. Dozens of Palestinian civilians gathered to prevent them from demolishing the facilities and threw stones at the soldiers. The Israeli soldiers in response fired ter gas canisters and sound bombs at the stone-throwers to disperse them. As a result one of them was directly hit with a gas canister.
On 20 April 2016, 8 Palestinian civilians were wounded in Qalednia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem when the Israeli forces moved into the camp to demolish the house of Hussein Abu Ghosh. Three of them sustained live bullet wounds and were transferred to Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah while the five others sustained metal bullet wounds and received medical treatment.
In the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces wounded 3 Palestinian civilians, including a fisherman and two protestors. Meanwhile a woman was wounded due to the explosion of a suspicious object of the Israeli military remnants.
As part of Israeli attacks on fishermen in the Gaza Strip Sea, On 19 April 2016, Israeli gunboats stationed off Rafah shore, south of the Gaza Strip, opened fire and fired metal bullets at a number of Palestinian fishing boats sailing within 8 nautical miles off the shore. As a result, one of the fishermen was hit with metal bullets throughtpuit his bodies while 5 others were arrested by Israeli forces. Moreover, Israeli forces confiscated a fishing boat and sank another.
As part of the use of force against Palestinian civilians participating in the protest s against Israeli forces in the vicinity of the border fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel, on 14 April 2016, two Palestinian civilians were wounded; one of whom sustained a live bullet wound to the left leg, east of al-Shuja’iyah, east of Gaza City while the other one sustained a live bullet wound to the abdomen, east of al-Bureij in the central Gaza Strip.
On 18 April 2016, Ilham Abu ‘Aser (32) from al-Shuja’iyah neighbourhood, east of Gaza City sustained shrapnel wounds to the left foot due to the explosion of a suspicious object believed to be from the Israeli military remnants in al-Nazzaz Street in the aforementioned neighbourhood.
Incursions:
During the reporting period, Israeli forces conducted at least 61 military incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank and 13 ones in occupied East Jerusalem and its suburbs. During these incursions, Israeli forces arrested at least 103 Palestinian civilians, including 24 children and 3 young women. Fifty-nine of them, including 21 children and a young woman, were arrested in occupied Jerusalem.
During the reporting period, on 13 April 2016, Israeli forces raided al-‘Ajouli Exchange Company in Souq al-Khodar building belonging to al-Bireh municipality. The Israeli soldiers forced the company’s owners to open the main door and raided and searched it. They also confiscated computers and documents before planting explosive materials in an attempt to open the big safe, which contains a lot of money and other documents related to their work. As a result, the safe was burnt and the office caught fire as well in adiition to nearby shops in the area and in the same building.
Restrictions on movement:
Israel continued to impose a tight closure of the oPt, imposing severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem.
The illegal closure of the Gaza Strip, which has been steadily tightened since June 2007 has had a disastrous impact on the humanitarian and economic situation in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli authorities impose measures to undermine the freedom of trade, including the basic needs for the Gaza Strip population and the agricultural and industrial products to be exported. For 9 consecutive years, Israel has tightened the land and naval closure to isolate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, and other countries around the world. This resulted in grave violations of the economic, social and cultural rights and a deterioration of living conditions for 1.8 million people. The Israeli authorities have established Karm Abu Salem (Kerem Shaloum) as the sole crossing for imports and exports in order to exercise its control over the Gaza Strip’s economy. They also aim at imposing a complete ban on the Gaza Strip’s exports. The Israeli closure raised the rate of poverty to 38.8%, 21.1% of which suffer from extreme poverty. Moreover, the rate of unemployment increased up to 44%, which reflects the unprecedented economic deterioration in the Gaza Strip.
Jewish Majority
In the context of house demolitions, on 20 April 2016, Israeli moved into Qaelndia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem. They raided and searched a house belonging to Hussein Abu Ghosh and destroyed the internal walls by a bulldozer. It should be mentioned that Abu Ghosh (17) was killed by Israeli forces on 25 January 2016 after he and Ibrahim ‘Allan (22) carried a stabbing attack in “Beit Horon” settlement, west of Ramallah. As a result, a settler was killed and another was wounded.
In the context of house demolitions and demolition notices, on 15 April 2016, Israeli forces accompanied with Israeli municipality staffs moved into a number of neighbourhoods uin Silwan village, south of East Jerusalem. The staff members distributed administrative demolition orders in the village after taking photos of some of its neighbourhoods and entrances in addition to houses and facilities. On 16 April 2016, joint crews from the Israeli municipality and Israeli forces moved into Silwan village again and distributed 18 administrative demolition notices in al-Bustan neighbourhood in the village in addition to taking photos of its neighbourhoods and streets.
As part of targeting the NGOs in the city, on 13 April 2016, Israeli forces raided al-Hakawati Palestinian National Theatre and handed its administration a decision signed by the Israeli Minister of Intenral Security, Gilad Ardan, to close it for one day under the pretext of holding an event sponsored by the Palestinian Authority. It should be mentioned that the final ceremony for the project of “An apprenticeship for the graduates of vocational and technical training in Jerusalem – project of employing the youth” was supposed to be held at Al-Hakawati. Moreover, handicraft items made by Jerusalemite females were supposed to be exhibited in Al-Hakawati hall.
Settlement activities:
On 14 April 2016, Israeli forces demolished two civil facilities in East Barta’ah, which isolated from its surrounding due to the annexation wall, west of Jenin. The first facility belongs to Basem ‘Aamrnah (34) while the second belongs to Mustafa Qabha (47).
On the same day, Israeli bulldozers levelled an 80-cubic-meter wall belonging to Saleh Nemer (34) in Abu Sawadah area, east of al-Arrouub refugee camp, north of Hebron.
On 14 April 2016, a group of Israeli settlers severely beat Zuhair Abu Khdeir (64) while being at work in West Jerusalem. His son said that his father sustained fractures in his nose, bruises in the head and face and his eyes were swollen. As a result, he was taken to the hospital and the wound in his nose required stitches

Russia Fires at Israeli Jets in Syria: Report
Russian forces in Syria have fired at least twice on Israeli military aircraft, Israeli newspaper reported.
The Yedioth Ahronoth daily on Friday gave no dates or locations for the incidents nor any indication Israeli planes were hit.

Separately, Israeli Channel 10 TV said a Russian warplane approached an Israeli warplane off the Mediterranean coast of Syria last week but that there was no contact between them.
The Zionist entity has repeatedly violated Syrian airspace and bombed targets inside the country which is fighting foreign-backed militants.
Israeli media claimed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu raised the issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow on Thursday.
But the Kremlin on Friday denied the two had discussed the alleged incidents involving Russian forces in Syria and Israeli military aircraft.
Israeli media had claimed that Tel Aviv was quick to set up an operational hotline with Moscow designed to avoid trading fire with Russian forces.
“In this case, Israeli press reports are far from reality,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a conference call with journalists.
Peskov, however, declined to comment on whether Russian forces in Syria had fired on Israeli military airplanes.
“I will not comment because it is a newspaper report and I do not want to speak about it,” Peskov told reporters, according to Interfax news agency.

Bernie Sanders Has Qualified As A Rabbi
By Gilad Atzmon
The Times of Israel explained earlier this week “How Bernie Sanders just became the rabbi of the Jewish left.”
For most of his campaign, “Sanders had seemed to avoid talking about his Jewishness.” This changed radically last week ahead of the April 19 primary in his native New York, the most Jewish city in America. In New York, the Israeli outlet reports, Sanders presented a “principled” stand “as a Jew” on anti-Semitism and his relationship with the Jewish community and Israel. In the early stages of his campaign Bernie seemed to oppose identiterian politics. But last week in outreaching to NY Jews, Bernie employed the usual ID political maneuvers and Zionist tricks from the Hasbara book. The Times Of Israel and the Jewish press see a “Rabbi” in Bernie for good reason.
At a rally in Harlem on April 9, Sanders faced down what the Jewish press described as an “anti-Semitic questioner.” The so called ‘anti Semite’ asked Bernie, “As you know, the Zionist Jews, they run the Federal Reserve, they run Wall Street….What is your affiliation to the Jewish community?”
I fail to see the anti Semitism. The question states established facts about powerful Jewish elites and raises a legitimate query regarding Bernie’s political and tribal affiliation. Far more concerning was Bernie’s answer.
“That’s not what you’re asking,” Sanders retorted to applause. “I am proud to be Jewish.”
I wonder, is this really the case? Do you follow Torah and Mitzvoth Mr. Sanders? What are you proud of exactly? Is it a set of ‘Jewish values,’ Jewish blood or is it your chicken soup recipe you are proud of?
Bernie provided his answer. By ‘Jewish pride’ he meant to say that he is “a strong defender of Israel” but he also “believes that we have got to pay attention to the needs of the Palestinian people.” This is apparently the sense of justice and impartiality conveyed by the new American socialist messiah: ’strong defense of the oppressor’ vs. ‘paying attention to the needs of the victim.’ Sadly, the position Sanders presented in Harlem is typical of the Jewish progressive approach to the Middle East. Total commitment to Israel peppered with some non-committal diluted verbal empathy towards the true people of the land i.e., the Palestinians.
“Jews are the 99 percent,” Bernie said to cheers from Harlem’s supportive crowd. Bernie cleverly failed to mention 99% of what. Did he mean 99% of the neocon club? Because, truth better be said, Jews are not well represented within America’s rapidly growing under class. Quite the opposite. Jews make up about 2% of the American population and they are among the most privileged ethnic groups in the US.
Sanders’ Middle East terminology could easily have been copied from a Likud pamphlet. In Sanders’ universe, freedom fighters are terrorists; the invaders and illegal setters are ‘peace seeking victims.’ “Of course Israel has a right not only to defend themselves, but to live in peace and security without fear of terrorist attack.” Sanders said in the last debate.
Sanders seems to be genuinely troubled by the massacre in Gaza where “some 10,000 civilians [who] were wounded and some 1,500 [who] were killed.” This is more critical of Israel than Mrs. Clinton is willing to be, but for those who may have forgotten, Bernie is parroting the Israeli Hsbara line. Israel, they always report, doesn’t want to kill women and children but is left with no other option. Sanders like Bibi, Regev and Lieberman basically blames the victims.
Unlike Clinton and Trump, Bernie didn’t join the groveling march to AIPAC’s recent gathering. Clinton and Trump had to compete for the attention of the Lobby that dominates American Foreign Policy so that it will crown one of them as its favourite Sabbos Goy. Bernie is no Sabbos Goy. Bernie is a ‘proud Jew’ by admission and a “Rabbi” according to The Times of Israel. The Times reports that he’s been “defending Israel to left-wing audiences, in his strident way. His closest friends in Vermont are Jewish. He’s handy with a Hebrew blessing.”
Bernie is apparently good for the Jews. But what about America? I guess we can hope for divine intervention.

UNESCO: ‘No Jewish history in Jerusalem’
Apr 20, 2016
UNESCO also decided that Al-Khalil and Bethlehem are integral parts of Palestine

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Association (UNESCO) announced on Friday a number of resolutions regarding Israeli occupation of historical Palestinian cities.
One of the resolutions was entitled “Occupied Palestine” and addressed Jerusalem Old City’s mosque, which is an Islamic site and Muslims call it Al-Haram Al-Sharif (the Noble Sanctuary) or Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jews refer to as the Temple Mount.
In the context of Jerusalem’s Old City, the document referred to Israel as “the occupying power” and referred to the site as Al-Aqsa Mosque.
UNESCO decided that the name of this holy place is Al-Aqsa Mosque and said that Jews have no connection to it. It did not recognise the Jewish name for the place as Temple Mount.
The resolution also condemned Israel for “planting fake Jewish graves in other spaces of the Muslim cemeteries” and for “the continued conversion of many Islamic and Byzantine remains into the so-called Jewish ritual baths or into Jewish prayer places.”
Among the states supporting the decision were Argentina, France, Spain, Slovenia, Sweden, India and Russia, several of which enjoys ostensibly warm relations Israel.
In addition, the resolution affirms that Al-Khalil, the birthplace for Abraham, and Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, “are an integral part of Palestine.”
Referencing “ongoing Israeli illegal excavations, works, construction of private roads for illegal settlers and a separation wall inside the Old City of Al-Khalil, that harmfully affect the integrity of the site, and the subsequent denial of freedom of movement and freedom of access to places of worship,” UNESCO also urged “Israel, the occupying power, to end these violations in compliance with provisions of relevant UNESCO conventions, resolutions and decisions.”

INTERNATIONAL MILITARY REVIEW – SYRIA & IRAQ, APRIL 20, 2016
On April 20, ISIS militants launched an ofensive on the militant stronghold of Mar’e. The offensive was supported by VBIEDs attacks. Heavy clashes are ongoing in the town’s suburbs. Mar’e is one the last logistical hubs controled by militants in Northern Aleppo. It’s located south of the Bab Al-Salamiyah border-crossing into Turkey.
Meanwhile, ISIS units successfully advanced in the Deir Ezzor area capturing the al-Sina’ah district and some building blocks in the Industrial Center. The terror groups’ advances came amid the reports that the Syrian government canceled the offensive on Deir Ezzor due to escalation at other fronts.
On April 19, the Syrian military grouping, which remains in the Homs province, conducted an operation in order to liberate the Brigade 550 Base from ISIS. By the situation on April 20, the base is fully secured. This move increased the safety of the recently liberated city of Palmyra.
Abu Omar al-Qashi, a senior field commander of al-Nusra, was killed in intense infighting in the Yarmouk camp in the countryside of Damascus. In turn, ISIS accused al-Nusra of killing three of its fighters, including Abu Dawoud al-Yamani, the terrorists’ commander in the Yarmouk camp. Heavy firefights between Al Nusra and ISIS terrorists have been ongoing in the area since last week.
The SAA and allies have reportedly repelled the militants’ counter-offensive in the Eastern side of Kinsibba in Rweisat al-Malak, Nhashba, Tal Adho and the nearby areas of Akou region. Pro-goverment sources argue that Rweisat al-Malak is under the full control of the army and the terrorist groups faced major casualties.
Iraqi pro-government tribal fighters destroyed 3 ISIS command centers in the al-Zour area in the province of Diyala. Sources said they also seized large amounts of military equipment and ammunition, including rockets. During the past few months, ISIS had been using the al-Zour area as a foothold for attacks against nearby villages and regions.

Fresh reinforcements arrived in the Kabani front to join the pro-government forces’ operation against al-Nusra and its allies and to retake the strategic city of Jisr al-Shughour near the border with the Lattakia province. Sources argue at least 1,000 the Syrian Arab Army’s soldiers, trained by Russian military advisers, have been deployed there. We remember the SAA and allies recently launched an offensive on the town of Kabani in the Kurdish Mountains. It’s a part of the wider operation aimed on Jisr al-Shughour.
The Emir of Jeish al-Islam called at least nine militant groups: Ahrar al-Sham, Faylaq al-Sham, Ansar al-Sham, Sham al-Islam, Jeish al-Nasr, Jeish al-Eza’ah, Jeish al-Mujahidin, al-Firqa al-Shamaliyeh and al-Ferqa al-Owla Saheliyeh to deploy forces to Lattakia’s border with Idlib to take part in a joint operation against the loyalists. The coalition of these militant groups launched an operation in Lattakia codenamed Rad al-Madhalem. The goal of the operation is to drive back the Syrian army units from the border with Turkey and repel the offensive on Jisr al-Shughour. On Monday the militant coalition launched a counter-attack on the Syrian forces’ positions, however, it weren’t able to succeed.
Al-Qaeda-linked militants advanced in the Al-Ghaab Plains and captured the village of Khirbat Al-Naqous near the Hama-Idlib border. Then, the militants attepmted to storm the town of Haqoura, but hasn’t seized it. The SAA is deploying reinforcements to the area.
Amid the escalation on the border of Latakia province and in Aleppo City, the Syrian government reportedly delayed the long-awaited offensive through the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor highway and redeployed some part of the military grouping located there to other fronts.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-backed Syrian opposition has withdrawn from the Geneva peace talks amid the militants’ offensive operations. The Saudi-backed High Negotiations Committee accused the Assad government in violating the ceasefire and slammed the UN’s diplomatic mediator for “bias.”

Bashar Al-Jaafari: “Syrian-Syrian dialogue ready to go all the way with other opposition powers: no groups linked to foreign agendas in expanded government”
Geneva, 20/4/2016 ~ Head of the Syrian Arab Republic’s delegation to the Syrian-Syrian dialogue in Geneva, Bashar al-Jaafari asserted that the dialogue can still go on with the Republic’s delegation and other delegations of the opposition even if the “Riyadh opposition” group wants to suspend its participation.
“There are several [opposition] groups that are present and support having the dialogue continue. However, those who want to walk away upon instructions they receive from the outside will have to take responsibility for their actions,” said al-Jaafari in an interview with several Syrian media outlets in Geneva, stressing that the Republic’s delegation is ready to go all the way with the dialogue.
He affirmed that the Republic’s delegation has shown the highest level of discipline and commitment among all the groups participating in the intra-Syrian dialogue.
Al-Jaafari criticized the fact that the United Nations, represented by its Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, has not treated all factions of the Syrian opposition on an equal footing, citing this as one of the problematic structure-related issues spotted since the first round of the talks.
He cited other problematic issues related to the representation and nature of the opposition delegations and the absence of a schedule by de Mistura, who, al-Jaafari said, likes to take up the UN Security Council resolution no. 2254 as a schedule, “which we say can only be taken as a road map and not a schedule.”
Al-Jaffari stressed that the Republic’s delegation’s reading of the resolution no. 2254 says that “our mandate here in Geneva stops at reaching the point of forming an expanded national unity government,” ruling out any discussion of the constitution, which he said would be “substantially in contradiction with the resolution itself.”
Discussion of the constitution at the talks, he elaborated, would mean undermining the right of the possible “temporary government or the expanded national provisional government to assigning a constitutional committee to draft a new constitution or amend the existing one.”
He went on saying that the formation of an expanded national unity government will include representatives of the current government, the opposition, independent figures and others, meaning a government of technocrats.
This issue, he added, has been explained to de Mistura, “with whom we engaged into active dialogue,” noting that the Republic’s delegation is waiting for reactions from other delegations to the amendments it made to de Mistura’s “basic elements” paper presented at the end of the previous round of talks.
“Our amendments to de Mistura’s paper are now the core of discussion,” al-Jaafari clarified, noting that the UN envoy has promised to put forth the amendments to the other groups and come back with reactions that will be represented to the Republic’s delegation during Wednesday’s session of talks.
Al-Jaafari denied that de Mistura officially raised the issue of the “vice-presidents”, stressing that he explained to the UN envoy that any such discussion is not acceptable as it is out of his mandate.
Al-Jaafri reiterated that Syria is ready to form an expanded national unity government that would engage some groups of the opposition, “but not any groups.”
He made it clear that the opposition groups who want to be part of an expanded national government should not be linked to terrorism or follow foreign agendas and should be living in Syria, adding that the “Riyadh opposition” group is linked to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar.
Earlier in an interview with Reuters, al-Jaafari affirmed that talks in Geneva can be continued with other opposition powers although “al-Riyadh opposition” delegation has announced suspension of its participation.
“The opposition is not only restricted to the higher Commission for negotiations formed in Saudi Arabia, “al-Jaafari told Reuters , adding “If they wanted to boycott talks, they could do so, it is not a big problem for us because they are not the only representatives of the Syrian opposition.”
He went on to say that the pretexts marketed by al-Riyadh opposition are not convincing, saying that the other groups in the opposition don’t evaluate the situation in the same way, so talks will continue with all possible flexibility.
“Al-Riyadh opposition delegation stir problems since the beginning of the process in Geneva and threaten to suspend talks or postpone them as they wait for the orders from their supports in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar,” al-Jaafari said.
He added that this is a political procrastination as you name it by the language of the UN; they delay in order to “blow up the talks as a whole.”
