Geagea Slams 'Noise' over Israeli Maneuver: It's Not The First!

Geagea Slams 'Noise' over Israeli Maneuver: It's Not The First!

21/05/2009 Once again, Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea decides to surprise everyone with his "outstanding" comments!

Geagea, who reportedly claimed at the national dialogue table that the Israeli enemy wasn't Lebanon's sole enemy, seemed to be upset for the attention given to the Israeli enemy maneuvers during the last few days.

While his so-called "ally," the head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt, was warning against the prospective maneuver, Geagea didn't find "embarrassment" in criticizing the "noise" over it "as if it was the first of its kind."

In a meeting with Kesrouan residents, Geagea said that he was "surprised" about the huge media attention given to the maneuvers, wondering that if the Israeli maneuvers were of grand importance, "then why didn't Syria and other Arab countries react yet?"

The LF chief immediately concluded that "some parties in Lebanon are exaggerating the severity of the situation in South Lebanon to say that they are the only ones in the region able to confront the Israeli maneuvers."

He didn't forget to give the "noise" an "electoral dimension," urging those who seek to increase chances of winning through highlighting the "alleged seriousness" of the maneuvers to stop. "The results of the elections are already known," he emphasized.

21/05/2009 The head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt warned on Thursday against the prospective Israeli maneuvers scheduled to take place at the end of May, urging all Lebanese to be aware and remain vigilant especially since the situation in the region is very volatile.

Speaking to Lebanese daily As-Safir, Jumblatt pointed to the discovery of the Mossad-linked spying networks all over Lebanon, calling concerned parties to highlight the importance of this achievement.

The Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) leader said that the mentioned cells were very dangerous, especially that they operate in a dismantled Lebanese society. He warned that such networks could instigate a threatening sectarian conflict.

In another topic, Jumblatt said he was with strengthening the president's power in order to find a solution to the veto threat in the government, provided this takes place in the framework of the Taef accord. "The president needs to act as an effective president," he said, adding that the head of state also should be given capacity to govern.

"I'm not a constitutional expert. However, we should find a procedure to combine the concept of Taef accord and the need to reconsider the president's powers," Jumblatt explained.
