GAZA, (PIC)-- MP Dr. Younis Al-Astal, a member of the legal committee at the Palestinian legislative council (PLC), said Monday that the latest arrests which took place in the Gaza Strip were carried out by the internal security apparatus against spy rings that confessed to providing PA security leaders in Ramallah with information about new targets in Gaza.

Dr. Astal noted that members of an active spy ring confessed to sending three batches of reports on fixed and mobile targets in Gaza, adding that the reports generally talk about camping locations of Palestinian fighters, areas of tunnels, places believed to be for storing or manufacturing weapons, security headquarters and the movement of many political and national figures.

He affirmed that the information sent by those rings to the PA in Ramallah reach the Israeli occupation authority, but he said that some spies are directly linked to the Israeli occupation.

The lawmaker recalled that the confessions obtained by those who had been arrested during the last Israeli war confirmed that 90 percent or more of the targets bombed by Israel in the first three days were based on intelligence reports sent to the PA in Ramallah.

Dr. Astal did not rule out that the intelligence reports on new targets sent recently by the arrested spy rings had reached Israel, pointing out that all confessions indicated that the spy rings were commissioned to do this type of work by Fatah leaders who fled Gaza and settled in Ramallah.

He underscored that the Palestinian authorities in Gaza would deal with everyone involved in spy activities according to the law, saying that Palestinian prosecutors are preparing files to level charges against those involved in a court of law.
