OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- A Hebrew daily has acknowledged in an article by its specialized intelligence expert Nahum Barnea that the issue of the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was one of the major failures in the history of Israeli intelligence.

The article said that Israel has failed and should bear the consequences of its failure, and added that the press report by an Arabic language newspaper in London (Ashark Al-Awsat) that Israel knew the exact location where Shalit is held in Gaza was a "sheer lie".

Meanwhile, in the Gaza Strip the minister of justice, Mohammed Al-Ghoul, expressed optimism that the swap deal involving freedom of Shalit in return for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners would be concluded this year.

He told a press conference on Monday that the release of 20 female detainees from Israeli occupation jails a few days ago was a good omen for conclusion of the deal.
