Abu Zuhri: Storming Aqsa, settlement drive point to failure of talks

GAZA, (PIC)-- Storming the Aqsa Mosque and the unabated settlement drive gave no room for doubt that the negotiations between the PA in Ramallah and the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) were meant to cover up for the IOA crimes, Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, said.

He told the PIC on Monday that the intensification of the settlement drive turns the negotiations process into a catastrophic event for the Palestinians, warning of proceeding in the talks while settlement building expands and aggression against Palestinians escalates.

He affirmed that the revelation about the construction of 13,000 new housing units in Jerusalem affirms that the negotiations were meant to cover up for settlement activity and not to stop it.

The spokesman called for pressuring the Palestinian negotiators to suspend those talks especially after the ultra orthodox Jews stormed the Aqsa Mosque with absolute disregard for start of the direct talks.

For its part, the change and reform parliamentary bloc said in a statement on Monday that the Jewish storming of the Aqsa plaza was a slap in the face of those who were wagering on negotiations.

The Hamas-affiliated bloc said that the IOA was not content with Judaization and annexation but was implementing a systematic plan to demolish the Aqsa Mosque and to build the alleged temple on its ruins.

It noted that such violations followed the Ramallah authority's acceptance of direct talks with the IOA, adding that the Ramallah team was representing only itself and its decisions did not bind the Palestinian people.
