Noam Shalit: Capture of Gilad led to reluctance to join the army

NAZARETH, (PIC)-- Noam Shalit, the father of captured Israeli soldier Gilad, has said in a lecture on Sunday that the capture of his son had caused reluctance among Israeli youth to join the military.

Shalit said that the mismanagement of the negotiations to release his son and the delay in his release made youth lose confidence in the army as an institution and in its ability to protect them and return them to their homes in the event they were captured.

He accused the Israeli intelligence apparatuses of not realizing the dangers they are causing to the military and to the trust in it because of their obstinacy in refusing to endorse the prisoners exchange deal with Palestinian factions capturing his son.

The father also charged the consecutive Israeli governments with ignoring his son's cause and not dealing with it seriously enough.
