Palestinian fighters in Gaza launched a barrage of rockets into Israel Monday in response to an airstrike yesterday that injured 11 people, including five children.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad announced today that they had launched the rockets in retaliation for Sunday's aerial attack in southern Gaza.

Israel reportedly aimed to kill two men, 23-year-old Talaat Halil Mohammed Jarbi and 24-year-old Abdullah Mohammed Hassan Maqawi, who were allegedly involved in a cross border attack in June that killed one Israeli.

Mohammed Jarbi lost both legs in yesterday's attack.

"In response to the injury of civilians in the most recent strike on Rafah, the Qassam Brigades and the Al-Quds Brigades fired a number of rockets at enemy military positions," Hamas's Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades armed wing said.

"This blessed operation came in response to continuous and repeated enemy crimes against our defenseless people."

Meanwhile, five other Palestinians were injured Monday morning when Israeli tanks shelled Gaza's Khan Younis, according to Ma'an news agency.
