Vladimir PutinThe Russian President Vladimir Putin considered on Tuesday that any attempt of foreign intervention in Syria is doomed to failure. He also asserted that S-300 deal hasn’t been carried out yet.“All the contracts signed with Syria abide by the international law,” Putin asserted in a press conference held after Russia-EU Summit in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.Putin indicated that S-300 is the best air defense system in the world, saying “we do not have the intention to break the strategic balance in the region.”

In a related context, Putin expressed his disappointment as the EU had decided to lift the ban on supplying weapons to the Syrian opposition, recalling the British project to an international agreement on arms embargo to non-governmental militias across the world.

Geneva 2 Putin hoped that the question of the Syrian opposition participation in Geneva 2 would be settled soon. “The absence of the free will of the Syrian Opposition, the lack of a unified basis, and the inability to identify the representative of the Syrian militants in the conference hinder an international conference on the Syrian crisis,” he added.

The Russian president also asserted that the Europeans agree with the Russians on the importance of Geneva 2. Stressing his commitment to convince the Syrian government to attend the conference, Putin hoped that the Syrian opposition would attend in a positive and effective manner, not represented by the “organ eaters,” humorously hinting at the videos that showed Syrian mercenaries eating the body organs of killed Syrian soldiers.
