Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed that defeating terrorism in his country requires confronting the Takfiri trend and staging pressure on its sponsors.
As he received a visiting Russian parliamentary delegation, Assad said: ““All of that needs serious efforts and not in the form of propaganda or grandstanding.”
“Routing terrorism requires putting actual pressure on the parties that are involved in funding and arming the terrorists and facilitating their passage.”
Assad expressed Syrian people’s “appreciation of Russia’s principled policies in support of the stability, sovereignty and independence of states,” official news agency, SANA, reported.
The Russian leader also “spotlighted the significance that coordination between Syria and Russia continue on all levels, particularly on the parliamentary one, with the aim of countering terrorism and the takfiri trend that are alien to our societies.”
For its part, the Russian delegation, headed by Ilyas Umakhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation, reaffirmed that its country is bent on continuing to support the Syrian people and bolstering their steadfastness in the face of the terrorist war targeting them.
