Iran refuses inspection of aid ship to Yemen

On Wednesday, Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham warned that Iran will never allow the US, its poodle Saudi Arabia or any other country to inspect Iranian aid ship carrying humanitarian aid cargo and international peace activists to Yemen – a victim of another Israel’s proxy war waged by the US and its Middle Eastern allies.
The countries involved in war against Yemen are no way allowed to inspect the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ship which is carrying humanitarian aid,” Afkham said in an interview with the state-run TV on Wednesday. Watch a video below.
She warned of the Yemeni people’s dire humanitarian conditions after nearly 50 days of siege and attack by the Saudi-US-led coalition attacks, and said Iran had made strenuous efforts in recent days to send the humanitarian aid cargo to Yemen through coordination with the international organizations before dispatching the vessel.
Afkham expressed the hope that the aid supplies would be delivered to the Yemeni people through coordination with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Her remarks came after the Saudi military claimed that Saudi naval forces had the right to inspect the Iranian ship.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Iranian defense ministry warned the US and Saudi Arabia of the dire consequences of any provocative move against Tehran’s humanitarian aid deliveries to Yemen.
The statement came after the Pentagon called on Iran not to unload humanitarian supplies in Yemen but rather dock a ship full of relief items in next door Djibouti, where the United Nations is setting up a supply hub.
The ship is carrying a group of aid workers, medical technicians, and peace activists from the US, France, German and Iran along with a shipment of humanitarian aid. The ship left the southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Tuesday. The aid ship is escorted by an Iranian navy warship.
Last month, USS Theodore Roosevelt joined several other US warships in Yemeni waters to intercept Iranian arms shipment to Houthis who have established an anti-Israel, anti-ISIS government in Sana’a. Such violation of international law was declared kosher by both Washington and Riyadh. However, now both the US and Saudi ‘royals’ are whining about Iran’s naval escort passing through the same waters.
Yemen might be one of the Arab world’s poorest countries, but it has always been a strategic geographic area in the Middle East. The Yemenite Bab-el-Mandeb, a narrow strait separating between Yemen and the Eastern Horn of Africa, acts as a strategic link between the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal which is the only water route to the outside world for the Zionist entity.
