The Odessa Massacre One Year Later

odessaMay 2, 2014, is a date that will live in infamy, not for Americans maybe, but certainly for ethnic Russians in Ukraine. On this date, a mob of Ukrainian nationalists attacked anti-Maidan protesters, who took shelter in the city’s Trade Unions building. The building was set ablaze, and people began jumping out windows in an effort to escape the flames–in some cases only to be killed after landing on the ground. According to reports, including one below, the government in Kiev hasn’t made much progress investigating the massacre or in bringing the guilty parties to justice.
In the video below, a survivor gives an account of the events of that day.
International Community Must Pressure Kiev for 2014 Odessa Massacre Report
Sputnik
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The international community must seek a thorough and impartial investigation by the Kiev authorities of the last year’s tragedy in Odessa, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
On May 2, 2014, pro-Kiev radicals blocked anti-government protesters in Odessa’s House of Trade Unions and set the building on fire by hurling Molotov cocktails inside. The tragic incident saw 48 people killed and another 20 injured.
“With a deep concern we have to state that one year [since the tragedy], the Ukrainian justice did not take any tangible steps toward an objective, independent and impartial investigation of this horrific crime in order to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement said.
