The Lebanese General Security said on Thursday it had arrested a prominent leader in the Takfiri group ISIL (so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Levant), along with other militants in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh.
On its Twitter account, the G.S. said it had captured the “forensic leader” of an ISIL cell plotting to carry out terrorists attacks in Lebanon.
Security sources told al-Manar that the main suspect was called Jihad Kaawash, adding that he was arrested along with other three suspects.
The suspects confessed they were planning to target several Ashura processions in Beirut Southern suburb (Dahiyeh), the sources added.
They were also planning to target Lebanese army checkpoints with suicide bombers,
according to the sources which noted that the suspects also confessed they had met ISIL insurgents in Raqqa, the Syrian stronghold of the Takfiri group.
