RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The Ahrar center for prisoners' studies and rights said that the year 2009 was full of Israeli violations of Palestinian prisoners' rights especially the patients.

Fuad Al-Khafsh, the director of the center, said in a statement on Friday that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) delays the treatment of many prisoners especially those suffering chronic diseases.

He said that no prisoner enters an IOA jail then gets out safe and sound.

He pointed out that there is no accurate statistics report regarding the number of sick prisoners, but he estimated the number to be more than one thousand.

The director noted that 40 of those live in the prison hospital in very difficult conditions such as those who could not move except on wheelchairs and those who suffer kidney failure.

Khafsh said that 18 Palestinian prisoners suffer from cancer the latest being Ahmed Al-Najjar who suffers from mouth cancer and who is no longer able to speak as a result.

A number of prisoners are patients of special needs and others need artificial limbs, glasses, sprayers for asthma patients and others that are not provided in the Israeli prisons, he said, adding that patients are transferred from prison to hospital and vice versa in shackles.

Khafsh hoped that the year 2010 would witness Arab, Islamic and international campaigns to save those prisoners.
