Sakhnin Resident Who Waved Sayyed Nasrallah Banner Arrested

08/04/2010 A 20-year-old Sakhnin resident was arrested on suspicion of waving a poster of Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah during the Land Day parade last month. Israeli Police will be motioning the Akko Magistrate's Court to extend his remand on Thursday.

The remand of another suspect, 20-year-old Yasser Faid Zabidat, who allegedly waved a sign with a photo of assassinated Hezbollah commander Imad Moghniyyeh, was extended on Wednesday until Sunday.

Police said that more arrests are expected as the investigation continues. During the main parade at Sakhnin on March 31 two veiled men were seen waving posters of senior officials of the Lebanese group.

The Galilee District police launched an investigation into the incident in an effort to locate the two. Rally goers were questioned over the past week as part of the inquiry.

Superintendent Avi Maor told Ynet that Zbidat had been arrested on suspicion of holding up Mughniya's photo, based on inquiry findings and intelligence materials.

He further related that the suspect confessed to the act during his interrogation and said he and his friend received the signs from a third party who brought them to the rally and asked them to wave them.

Maor added that Israeli police continues to check Zabidat's story while trying to trace those who provided him with the signs. He further noted that the parties involved in the incident are suspected of affiliation with a resistance organization.
