Italian study reveals Israeli use of toxic and carcinogenic weapons in Gaza wars
[ 13/05/2010 - 10:04 AM ]
ROME, (PIC)-- A research study conducted by specialist Italian academics revealed the presence of residual toxic and carcinogenic metals (metallic chemical elements) in the tissues of Palestinians wounded during the Israeli wars on the Gaza Strip in 2006 and 2009.
The research was carried out by the research group of new weapons based in Italy, which is composed of independent scientists and doctors who study the non-conventional weapons and their middle-term effects on the residents of areas afflicted by military conflicts.
The researchers says that samples taken from Palestinian victims wounded in 2006 and 2009 wars disclosed traces of chemical substances that cause tumors, deformities and serious health problems and include arsine, mercury, uranium, chromium, cadmium and others.
The research has been carried out on wounds caused by Israeli weapons that did not leave fragments in the bodies of the victims, a fact that was pointed out repeatedly by doctors in Gaza. This shows that experimental weapons, whose effects are still to be assessed, were used.
Professor Paola Manduca, the spokesperson of the research group, said that the Israeli use of such metals in its weapons during its wars on Gaza means that they spread widely in the environment and were inhaled by both the victims and bystanders, which constitutes a danger to survivors and those who were not present in bombed areas.
