Mishaal confers with the delegation of independent Palestinian figures
[ 10/07/2010 - 07:51 AM ]
DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Khaled Mishaal, the political bureau chairman of Hamas, and members of the political bureau received in Damascus on Friday a delegation of independent Palestinian figures led by business tycoon Munib Al-Masri.
The independent figures briefed Mishaal and the political leadership of Hamas on their ideas for overcoming obstacles hampering inter-Palestinian reconciliation and the importance of achieving inter-Palestinian understandings.
Mishaal welcomed the delegation's efforts, which, he said, would help in accomplishing national reconciliation.
The visiting delegation included Dr. Hanna Naser, Dr. Assad Abdul Rahman, Dr. Mustafa Al-Barghouthi, and Hani Al-Masri.
The delegation, which was previously assigned by former PA chief and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas to mediate a national reconciliation, had decided to dissolve itself in protest over Abbas's backtracking on his promises and his attempt to reduce the delegation's mediation bid into convincing Hamas to sign the Egyptian reconciliation document.
The delegation decided to initiate another independent attempt to bridge the gap between the two main Palestinian parties and to forge Palestinian-Palestinian understanding that would facilitate ending the internal rupture and achieve reconciliation.
