Hamas: Direct talks to help IOA evade international prosecution

[ 15/08/2010 - 12:43 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas said that the return to direct negotiations between the PA in Ramallah and the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) would serve as a lifeboat for the IOA.

Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri said in a press release on Sunday that going to direct talks would entail "catastrophic results" on the Palestinian cause and rights while allowing the IOA to evade international prosecution.

He charged that the negotiations would also serve as a cover for the IOA to commit more crimes against the Palestinian people.

The spokesman said that the expected quartet statement on Monday would be void of any solid content and would provide an international cover for the Fatah-controlled PA to rid it of embarrassment before the Arab and Islamic public opinion.

Abu Zuhri said that any statement by the quartet committee would not bring anything new, noting that the IOA always ignores international laws.

He expressed utter dismay at the Fatah authority for constantly racing behind the mirage of negotiations at a time the IOA never desisted from its Judaization policy, demolition of Palestinian homes, and violations of holy shrines.

Israeli official sources predicted that the direct talks would resume within days while head of the PLO's negotiations department Saeb Uraikat said that it would resume next week.
