DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad has charged that Israel was not willing and was not capable of achieving peace, adding that only just and comprehensive peace is capable of achieving security and stability in the region.

Assad warned on Tuesday of the "serious repercussions" of the new Israeli racist law that stipulated mainly on swearing allegiance to a Jewish and democratic state of Israel.

Assad was speaking after meeting with a delegation of the Global Elders, an independent organization working on ending world conflicts, comprising former Irish president Mary Robinson, former American president, Jimmy Carter, and other notable figures.

The delegates briefed the president on the tragic conditions of the Palestinian people as a result of the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip, which they saw for themselves during their brief visit to the Gaza Strip.

Assad praised the group's efforts, calling for pressing the world community into assuming its responsibility in restraining the Israeli incessant violations and ending the Palestinian daily suffering.

He also stressed the importance of internal Palestinian reconciliation and helping the Palestinians in accomplishing it.
