Barghouthi: IOA exploiting negotiations to impose facts on the ground

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- MP Dr. Mustafa Al-Barghouthi, the secretary general of the Palestinian national initiative party, said that giving the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) a fresh breathing space to continue negotiations would not be of any good.

Barghouthi said in a press statement on Sunday that the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu would only use such a respite to impose new facts on the ground.

The settlers and the Israeli occupation forces are launching an unbridled offensive on the Palestinian people and there is no Palestinian safe spot, he said, pointing to the seriousness of the situation in occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The lawmaker said that it was about time to declare the independent Palestinian state on all 1967 occupied lands with Jerusalem as its capital and demanding an Arab and international recognition of it to create a Palestinian de facto situation and to pressure the "hesitant international parties".

None should bet on negotiations with Netanyahu government, he stressed, adding that the independent state is the last ditch effort to save the two-state solution.

There should be no assistance to the Israeli government, which was unmasked before the entire world as a government for settlement and settlers, Barghouthi concluded.
