Nasif calls for releasing political detainees

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Senior Hamas official Ra'fat Nasif, a prisoner in Israeli jails, said the Palestinian citizen needs to sense concrete steps supporting the national reconciliation deal, especially the release of political detainees from west Bank prisons.

"I hope to see swift tangible moves supporting this great achievement and the first of these steps is to empty the prisons from all political detainees immediately," Nasif stated in a letter leaked from his cell.

The Hamas official also called on the Palestinian people, their factions and the Arab and Muslim nations to diligently work to translate the reconciliation deal into reality and protect it so as it cannot end like the ones before.

In the same context, the association of Palestinian scholars abroad appealed to all Palestinian leaders and factions to keenly create the atmosphere for the success of the reconciliation deal.

The association in a press release called for releasing all political detainees, stopping media campaigns, reopening charities and civil institutions and taking all measures that would strengthen the Palestinian unity.

In a separate incident, local sources in Al-Khalil city said the Fatah-affiliated preventive security still arrest citizens because of their political affiliation and did not stop even during the signing of the reconciliation agreement in Cairo.

The sources added that the preventive security kidnapped last Tuesday three Palestinian citizens from Hamas Movement during a raid on Dura town in Al-Khalil.

They also reported that the same security apparatus also stormed a neighborhood in Dura in search for a young man from Awawda family.

A number of Hamas members and leaders are still locked up in West Bank jails and the Fatah security apparatuses including the preventive security refuse to release them.
