The Lebanese General Security announced on Sunday it has arrested two men involved in funding and planning for Burj al-Barajneh blasts in Beirut’s southern suburb (Dahiyeh).
“Two men involved in funding and plotting for the Burj el-Barajneh twin explosions, namely Ibrahim Ahmed Rayed (Lebanese) and Mustafa Ahmed al-Jarf (Syrian) have been arrested,” General Security Directorate-General said in a statement released on Sunday evening.
The two detainees “are now subjected to questioning under the supervision of military prosecutors,” according to the statement.
"The first man confessed to receiving orders from Daesh inside the Syrian territories in administering the terrorist network between Tripoli, Ashrafieh and Burj Barajneh,”the statement said, referring to an Arabic acronym of ISIL Takfiri group (So-caled Islamic State in Iraq and Levant).
“The second confessed to transferring funds to network members," the statement added, according to the Nattional News agency (NNA).
"General Security apparatuses are still pursuing the remaining members of the terrorist network," the statement concluded.
The terrorist blasts which rocked Burj al-Barajneh on Thursday night killed 44 people and injured at least 200 others.
