DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- The Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, said on Thursday that the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip is a massacre that affects all Palestinians and that he discussed the issue with the visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

President Assad who was talking at a joint press conference with President Chavez in Damascus said that he discussed with President Chavez ways of moving the issue at the international level to get some countries "to lift this oppressive blockade."

"We did not talk about the international community as this term today means a few powerful countries that seeks to dominate the world, international politics and international economy, but we talked about an international movement to include countries that could have a just stand in this regard," said President Assad "When we talk about the international community as it is commonly understood, it means controlling international institutions and Syria and Venezuela seek to reform such institutions so that we could move from world disorder to world order."

He added that his meeting with President Chavez was very fruitful adding that there was a strong desire in the countries and peoples of Latin America to develop relations with the Arab world.

President Chavez for his part attacked Israel for being against peace; "Israel is an anti-peace entity that foreshadows wars in Latin America and violates its peoples, and it has become the executive arm of American policy," he said adding that Israel should return the occupied Golan Heights to Syria and lift the oppressive Israeli blockade over the Palestinian people..
