Jumblatt Visits Sayyed Fadlallah, Mourns March 14 'Slogans'

02/09/2009 "We can't remain prisoners of slogans of freedom, sovereignty, and independence," the head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt said on Wednesday, mourning in a way or another the slogans raised by his "former" alliance since its "creation."

Jumblatt was speaking to reporters following a visit he made to Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah at his residence in Hart Hreik in Beirut's southern suburb. He discussed with his eminence the situation in Lebanon and the region in general.

The Progressive Socialist Party leader said that he shared the same political views as Sayyed Fadlallah on local as well as regional issues.

Addressing his "former" allies in the so-called March 14 bloc, Jumblatt said that it was time to reconsider a "re-reading" of the facts. "We can't remain prisoners of slogans of freedom, sovereignty, and independence," he added.

Jumblatt, who recalled that Israeli was Lebanon's enemy while Syria was a friend, warned of a sedition plan that was plotted against Lebanon, calling for Islamic and national unity to avoid such plans.

For his part, Sayyed Fadlallah held all Lebanese responsible to prevent international axes from complicating the crises and stimulating internal sensitivities. His eminence praised Jumblatt's efforts to prevent sedition.
