The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine denounced the planned meeting between PA President Mahmoud Abbas and Zionist extremist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Obama on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York next Tuesday and called for all political and popular forces and movements to take urgent action to prevent Palestinian participation in this meeting and ensure it is cancelled.

In comments made on September 20, 2009, the PFLP's spokesperson said that this meeting serves only U.S. and Israeli interests and provides a fig leaf for occupation. The PFLP spokesperson said that such a meeting can only be harmful to the Palestinian cause and the rights of our people, particularly in light of the Netanyahu government's complete refusal of its international obligations and continuation of the siege, settlement-building, and other crimes of the occupation. Furthermore, the PFLP spokesperson noted, while this meeting is scheduled to take place at the UN, the Netanyahu government makes a mockery of all international legitimacy related to Palestine.

The PFLP spokesperson further demanded that PA President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) not participate in this meeting, which provides Netanyahu with a free gift in exchange for his government's ultra-extremism and racism and provides a fig leaf of cover for its ongoing war crimes and violations against our people. The PFLP spokesperson said that Palestinian participation in the UN meeting should demand that the recent UN fact-finding report on the massacre in Gaza be taken up by the Security Council and focus efforts toward bringing the occupation state to justice for its war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The spokesperson of the PFLP said that this meeting serves the strategic interests of the US and the Zionist state in promoting normalization amid ongoing crimes and siege against our people and is meant only to undermine Palestinian rights and legitimize the Netanyahu regime in an international forum.
