NABLUS, (PIC)-- Hamas issued a statement in the West Bank on Sunday charging that the arrest of Hamas commander Sheikh Maher Ode after a long and complicated pursuit was only possible with the collusion of Mahmoud Abbas's militias.

It said in a press release that the success of the Israeli occupation forces' (IOF) detention of Ode reflected cowardice and treachery.

"Resistance is our strategic option and it will rise anew in the West Bank despite its wounds," the statement said, adding, "the arrest or assassination of leaders is the tax of honor that we pay with pride".

The change and reform bloc, Hamas's parliamentary bloc, echoed the same accusation, describing Ode's detention as the fruit of security coordination between the PA in Ramallah and the IOF.

It urged Fatah, which controls the security apparatuses in the West Bank, to adopt a daring stand and stop its security coordination with the "Zionist enemy".

For his part, Ihab Al-Ghussain, the spokesman of the Palestinian interior ministry in Gaza, said that the detention of Ode was a shame on Fatah's authority and its security apparatuses in the West Bank.

He said that the IOF could not capture Ode for the past ten years and only succeeded with the help of Fatah's security.

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Israeli war minister Ehud Barak has decided to extend the hermetic closure imposed on the West Bank since Friday for three more days.

Israeli media reported that Barak announced on Saturday night that the closure on the West Bank would remain in effect till Wednesday morning in anticipation of further deterioration in light of latest developments in the Aqsa Mosque and occupied Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Saturday night apprehended Sheikh Maher Ode, one of the Hamas commanders in central West Bank.

The Israeli TV quoted an IOF spokesman as saying that an IOF unit captured Ode in Bir Nabla village south of Ramallah despite being under the supposed security control of the PA.

The TV report noted that Ode was wanted for the IOF since the early nineties of the past century for alleged responsibility over several human bombing attacks. Ode survived a number of assassination attempts.
