Abu Zuhri: Zaki statement proves that the Gaza siege is political

GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, has affirmed that the statement of Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman Husam Zaki linking lifting of Gaza siege to the return of Fatah rule in Gaza meant that the blockade was of political nature.

Abu Zuhri commenting on the statement told the PIC on Tuesday that Zaki's statement also indicated that Arab parties were using the siege to interfere in internal Palestinian affairs, to support one Palestinian party against another, and to pressure to weaken Hamas in order to boost Fatah.

Those parties apparently did not read well the consequences of the Freedom Flotilla attack as the international official and public atmosphere was against continuation of the siege on Gaza, the spokesman elaborated.

The attempts by those parties to exploit those consequences to serve special purposes and to support certain Palestinian parties against others were no longer useful because the siege will break and betting on it to weaken Hamas had already proven its failure, he elaborated.

Zaki said that Cairo wanted an immediate end to the siege of Gaza and the return of the "legitimate Palestinian national authority" to the Strip to allow the re-opening of Israeli crossings and the entry of goods into the Strip in a normal manner.
