An American journalist says a nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 countries is unlikely due to the ongoing attempts by the US Senate to sabotage the nuclear talks.
“I just don’t see it likely that the US Senate is going to allow any kind of a nuclear deal to go through, and all they would have to do is… invoke another round of sanctions on Iran and the deal is off,”said James Morris, editor of America-hijacked.com
In a phone interview with Press TV on Monday, he said, “The demands that have been put on Iran are unreasonable”.
Morris made the remarks when asked to comment on a message tweeted by US foreign policy scholar Zbigniew Brzezinski, encouraging Washington to broker a deal with Iran.
“As the Mideast grows increasingly chaotic, it’s smarter to increase stability, not reduce it. A deal with Iran is better than no deal”,Brzezinski wrote.
The journalist said Brzezinski is in an anti-war position in the Middle East like most rational people, but the US State Department which is under the influence of Israel lobby wants war with Iran.
“The State Department which has a lot of Israel lobby influence, with regard to AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and the neo-conservatives… they want war with Iran and they want to sabotage those talks in any way that they can,” he noted.
Morris said the demands “with regard to inspection of the military sites when Iran is a signer of the NPT, nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty — when Israel… with 200 to 400 nukes is not, and won’t allow even the UN to go in and take a look at their nuclear facility at Dimona — it’s a blatant double standard that the US is pushing here and I think it’s a very concerning situation that even though Secretary [of State John] Kerry has said that we would like a deal but —paraphrasing of course — we don’t have to have one necessarily”.
Representatives from Iran and the P5+1 – the US, Russia, China, Britain, France, and Germany – are engaged in intense negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna to reach an agreement with Iran over its nuclear program.
The two sides extended their self-imposed end-of-June deadline for a comprehensive deal to July 7.
Morris believes that there is no evidence that Iran has nuclear weapons while“Israel has two to four hundred”.
He also mentioned the fact that “other countries in the region which are hostile to Iran, such as the Saudis, they’ve already made mention that they are looking into the possibility of acquiring nuclear weapons.”
