PA security save settlement from popular protests

[ 31/03/2011 - 01:22 PM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Palestinian Authority security militias cracked down on Palestinian protesters before reaching their destination near the Israeli Beit El settlement, as the PA continues to offer security services to Israel.

Dozens headed out towards an area near the Beit El settlement near Ramallah, but the militias stopped them before crossing to the area near the center of friction amid shouts calling for national unity and emphasizing Palestinian rights.

The security militias have considered impingement on the settlements an impingement on the interests of the Palestinians and the Palestinian Authority, as they have placed charges against resistance fighters who shot at Jewish settlers a few days ago calling the move an impingement on PA security.

Separately, Fatah party thugs have attacked a sit-in tent pitched by the March 15 protesters in central Ramallah under protection of the PA security militias.

The assailants tore up the tent and burned books inside, according to March 15 protesters.

Clashes soon broke out between the protesters, the thugs and the security forces.

The thugs attacked them under protection of PA police who were in the area. Police did not intervene until after the thugs finished the attack in the same way that the Israeli army deals with settler attacks on the Palestinians, witnesses said.
