British MP: Tzipi Livni is a war criminal, daughter of a terrorist

LONDON, (PIC)-- When discussing before the House of Commons a change in British law that would ultimately harbor war criminals, MP Gerald Kaufman labeled former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni “the daughter of a war criminal and terrorist”, adding that she was involved in the bloody Operation Cast Lead against the Gaza Strip and the Freedom Flotilla massacre, among a list of other crimes against the Palestinians.

The British Parliament saw heated debates this week when discussing an amendment to the British law that would empower the Public Prosecutor with the rigth to veto arrest warrants issued against war criminals who set foot on British soil. Critics of the law change say the bill was designed to permit Israeli war criminals entry to England without fearing prosecution.

Kaufman said that a change in the law would mean scratching out the few punitive measures, thereby allowing Israeli politicians to enter Britian and evade legal prosecution for the crimes of murder and war.

Lawyers, politicians, religious figures, and many others have called on the British government to refrain from passing the amendment.

Israel announced last November it would freeze strategic bilateral dialogue with the UK unless the latter reconsidered its war crime laws. Shortly after, British Foreign Minister Wiliam Hague said his country would amend a law that currently allows the state to prosecute foreigners accused of humanitarian and war crimes.

How values, opinions and beliefs are controlled in democratic societies.

Defamation is the destruction or attempted destruction of the reputation, status, character or standing in the community of a person or group of persons by unfair, wrongful, or malicious speech or publication. For the purposes of this essay, the central element is defamation in retaliation for the real or imagined attitudes, opinions or beliefs of the victim, with the intention of silencing or neutralizing his or her influence, and/or making an example of them so as to discourage similar independence and "insensitivity" or non-observance of taboos. It is different in nature and degree from simple criticism or disagreement in that it is aggressive, organized and skillfully applied, often by an organization or representative of a special interest group, and in that it consists of several characteristic elements.

Ritual Defamation is not ritualistic because it follows any prescribed religious or mystical doctrine, nor is it embraced in any particular document or scripture. Rather, it is ritualistic because it follows a predictable, stereotyped pattern which embraces a number of elements, as in a ritual.

The elements of a Ritual Defamation are these:

In a ritual defamation the victim must have violated a particular taboo in some way, usually by expressing or identifying with a forbidden attitude, opinion or belief. It is not necessary that he "do" anything about it or undertake any particular course of action, only that he engage in some form of communication or expression.

The method of attack in a ritual defamation is to assail the character of the victim, and never to offer more than a perfunctory challenge to the particular attitudes, opinions or beliefs expressed or implied. Character assassination is its primary tool.

An important rule in ritual defamation is to avoid engaging in any kind of debate over the truthfulness or reasonableness of what has been expressed, only condemn it. To debate opens the issue up for examination and discussion of its merits, and to consider the evidence that may support it, which is just what the ritual defamer is trying to avoid. The primary goal of a ritual defamation is censorship and repression.

The victim is often somebody in the public eye - someone who is vulnerable to public opinion - although perhaps in a very modest way. It could be a schoolteacher, writer, businessman, minor official, or merely an outspoken citizen. Visibility enhances vulnerability to ritual defamation.

An attempt, often successful, is made to involve others in the defamation. In the case of a public official, other public officials will be urged to denounce the offender. In the case of a student, other students will be called upon, and so on.

In order for a ritual defamation to be effective, the victim must be dehumanized to the extent that he becomes identical with the offending attitude, opinion or belief, and in a manner which distorts it to the point where it appears at its most extreme. For example, a victim who is defamed as a "subversive" will be identified with the worst images of subversion, such as espionage, terrorism or treason. A victim defamed as a "pervert" will be identified with the worst images of perversion, including child molestation and rape. A victim defamed as a "racist" or "anti-Semitic" will be identified with the worst images of racism or anti-Semitism, such as lynchings or gas chambers.

Also to be successful, a ritual defamation must bring pressure and humiliation on the victim from every quarter, including family and friends. If the victim has school children, they may be taunted and ridiculed as a consequence of adverse publicity. If they are employed, they may be fired from their job. If the victim belongs to clubs or associations, other members may be urged to expel them.

Any explanation the victim may offer, including the claim of being misunderstood, is considered irrelevant. To claim truth as a defense for a politically incorrect value, opinion or belief is interpreted as defiance and only compounds the problem. Ritual defamation is often not necessarily an issue of being wrong or incorrect but rather of "insensitivity" and failing to observe social taboos.

An interesting aspect of ritual defamation as a practice is its universality. It is not specific to any value, opinion or belief or to any group or subculture. It may be used for or against any political, ethnic, national or religious group. It may, for example, by anti-Semites against Jews, or by Jews against anti-Semites; by rightists against leftists or by leftists against rightists, and so on.

The power of ritual defamation lies entirely in its capacity to intimidate and terrorize. It embraces some elements of primitive superstitious belief, as in a "curse" or "hex." It plays into the subconscious fear most people have of being abandoned or rejected by the tribe or by society and being cut off from social and psychological support systems.

The weakness of ritual defamation lies in its tendency toward overkill and in its obvious maliciousness. Occasionally a ritual defamation will fail because of poor planning and failure to correctly judge the vulnerability of the victim or because its viciousness inadvertently generates sympathy.

It’s important to recognize and identify the patterns of a ritual defamation. Like all propaganda and disinformation campaigns it is accomplished primarily through the manipulation of words and symbols. It is not used to persuade, but to punish. Although it may have cognitive elements, its thrust is primarily emotional. Ritual Defamation is used to hurt, to intimidate, to destroy, and to persecute, and to avoid the dialogue, debate and discussion upon which a free society depends. On those grounds it must be opposed no matter who tries to justify its use.

Al Akhbar daily newspaper mentioned that "the recent statements of Hizbullah SG Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah regarding the involvement of United Nations International Independent Investigation Commission (UNIIIC) Deputy President Gerhard Lehmann in leaking investigation documents in return for money took place while German Judge Detliv Mehlis was in office.
 

The newspaper has learned that "Lehmann used to go to a tourist resort in Jounieh where he spent a lot of time in amusement. He reportedly had contacts with members of a Lebanese opposition party who offered him the deal.

According to sources, Lehmann agreed on the deal, whereby he would bring to a second meeting documents pertaining to the ongoing investigations, including testimonies given by March 14 leaders and others and comprising accusations against Syria and Hizbullah.

In this context, Al Akhbar came to know that "when the date was set, Lehmann came to a chalet in the said resort where his Lebanese friends had set a video camera that recorded all that happened in a matter of minutes."

Lehmann reportedly received around 50 thousand dollars in return for the documents.

GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri denied in a press conference Sunday that elements from his movement who are presently being jailed for political reasons in PA security prisons have called off a hunger strike, as claimed recently by one security official.

The political prisoners kicked off a wide-ranging hunger strike after courts ruled in favor of providing them the rights they demanded, but officials inside the prison failed to respond. Abu Zuhri is holding the PA liable for the lives of the strikers.

“What was attributed to a security official about Hamas prisoners in the West Bank breaking their hunger strike is a mere media fabrication and baseless leaks aimed at ending pressure caused by the strike,” Abu Zuhri said.

“We assure that the strike of Hamas prisoners in the West Bank is still ongoing. There are other prisoners who have joined the strikers. We hold Fatah and the authority in Ramallah responsible for the lives of the strikers. We call on all concerned rights groups to intervene to stop the suffering of the strikers who demand their rights, as the courts have ruled for their release.”

A security official previously said Hamas detainees announced breaking their strike. “After calm dialogue with them, they ended their strike voluntarily, without coercion. They are currently enjoying good health as attested by rights groups who visited them,” the source said.

Change and Reform bloc stages solidarity stand with hunger strikers in PA jails

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Change and Reform bloc, the party representing Hamas in the Palestinian Legislative Council, staged Sunday a solidarity stand with the Hamas elements jailed by the PA security, who have gone on an open-ended hunger strike to protest the maltreatment they've sustained in the facilities.

The party holds the PA responsible for the health of the strikers, with the step evolving into a real threat to the lives of some of them as they go on their twenty-ninth day.

The detainees' cause is to expose the reality of the abuse and brutal torture they have fell victim to in the PA jails.

The sympathizers said the PA has begun to pose a serious threat to the Palestinians and their cause by working as an agent for Israel and taking turns with its security forces to uproot the resistance movement.

Palestine's prisoner affairs ministry called the PA's failure to release the Hamas political prisoners open treason and meeting Israel's wishes, despite the latter turning its back on the former.

The Fatah authority is holding more than 1,200 Hamas and Islamic Jihad movement affiliates, 500 of them ex-prisoners in Israeli facilities, the ministry reported.

Six of those prisoners have announced 28 days back going on an open hunger strike in an attempt at escaping the jails' torture and gaining their freedom. Palestinian courts have ruled that those prisoners be released, but the PA security agencies failed to recognize those decisions. They have distributed the prisoners througout several facilities and pressured them to end the strike. A security official surfaced recently with claims that the prisoners have called off the strike, an allegation Hamas has denied.

The prisoners affairs ministry in Gaza accused Fatah of working on behalf of Israel to break down the resistance movement and abduct and assassinate its men, calling on Hamas to abstain from reconciling with the group, which it said has betrayed the people and thrown themselves into the arms of the occupation.

It cited a same titled October 2007 Haaretz editorial, calling for "debate about Israel's control over the lives of Palestinians deprived of civil rights," saying its democracy is flawed for denying Arab Israelis equality with Jews.

In his December 10 op-ed titled titled, "The farce of a secular and democratic Jewish state," Haaretz writer Gideon Levy was equally critical, saying:

"The debate over the conversion bill is deceptive." The IDF bill aims to prevent municipal marriage clerks from refusing to register marriages of people converted during military service. An estimated 2,500 occur annually, mostly among former Soviet Union immigrants. Orthodox parties, like Shas, want the Sephardic chief rabbi to have sole conversion authority. Secular ones want bill's language left unchanged.

Levy believes the debate masks greater issues, fundamental ones "that define our society and state." Whether military or civilian rabbis decide who is Jewish is a distraction. "Ten times more significant is....whether (we're) living in the only country on earth where clerics determine the right to citizenship. No less important (is the illusion that Israel) is a secular and democratic state."

Imagine debates over whether to rent apartments to Arabs. What about equal rights, democratic freedoms, civil liberties and justice. Choosing who's superior, who's inferior, who gets rights and who doesn't exposes Israel's real agenda, a theocratic-run Jewish state under religious law, deciding who belongs and who doesn't, enforced by hardline officials and MKs.

"It's time to admit that this approach can only be called racist," based on "the blood flowing through (one's) veins....determin(ing) your status....Sixty-two years after (Israel's) establishment, (it's time to) change this reality."

It's time for "normalcy, for joining the enlightened world, (and changing) distorted reality." Otherwise, it's ludicrous calling Israel "a liberal and modern state" when growing despotism better defines it. Non-Jews have experienced it for decades, under a repressive occupation, and Israeli Arabs treated like second class citizens.

On December 17, the Adalah Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel said a new report lists 20 new Knesset laws and draft laws that discriminate against Arab minorities, threatening their rights as citizens. In some cases, Occupied Palestinian rights are also violated.

For example, a recently proposed Knesset "Bill for Protecting the Values of the State of Israel (Amendment Legislation) 2009 requires organizations pledge loyalty to Israel as "Jewish and democratic." In a November 4 press release, Adalah said the bill:

"violates the right of freedom of association and freedom of expression of all Arab organizations in Israel, which seek through democratic means to change the political, legal and social status in Israel. It asks those organizations to express their loyalty to the Jewish state and therefore it is not just a discriminatory law but one that seeks to oppress the rights of the Arab minority."

It also limits and damages Arab organizations' work, "put(ting) them under ultra-nationalist, ideological interrogation and investigation, and (questioning) every serious action" they take. The bill enforces a Jewish world view, delegitimizing and perhaps criminalizing organizations not endorsing it. This and other bills mirror 1920s Italy and 1930s Germany where democracy became fascism, including racist laws, persecution and extermination.

Institutionalizing Apartheid in Israel

On October 29, Haaretz writer Amnon Be'eri-Sulitzeanu headlined, "Segregation of Jews and Arabs in 2010 Israel is almost absolute," saying:

The Knesset's "Amendment to the Cooperative Associations Bill" bypasses High Court rulings in favor of instituting apartheid law.

Ten years ago, Israel's Supreme Court "ordered the town of Katzir to accept the family of Adel and Iman Kaadan, Arab citizens of Israel, as members of the community. Seven years later," the Court again ruled against the Rakefet Galilee village. Like Katzir, it's Jewish, ordered not to discriminate against Arab citizens. The Knesset amendment, however, lets communal village acceptance committees limit residency exclusively to Jews, rejecting families that "are incompatible with the social-cultural fabric of our community, and where there are grounds to assume that they will disrupt the fabric."

In other words, non-Jews are barred to let communities preserve Jewish traditions. Earlier, anticipating the Knesset action, communities like Yuvalim and Manof, in the Misgav area, mandated residence based on declaring allegiance to the Zionist vision. In Mitzpe Aviv, applicants must openly identify with Zionist values and the notion of Israel as a Jewish, democratic state.

In addition, in Upper Nazareth, Safed and Carmiel, senior municipal officials call for dispossessing Arabs or preventing their integration into the communities.

As a result, "Segregation of Jews and Arabs in Israel in 2010 is almost complete." Resident Jews take it for granted. Visitors, however, can't "believe their eyes: segregated education, segregated businesses, separate entertainment venues, different languages, separate political parties, (and) segregated housing..contribut(ing) to the growing mutual alienation of Jews and Arabs." In other words, Jim Crow in the extreme, including violence and intimidation.

To Israel's shame, segregation remains de jure, legislated apartheid expected to pass its final version and become official in the weeks ahead. It already is in practice despite High Court rulings prohibiting the practice. The racist Knesset and Netanyahu government pay no attention, doing what they please with or without legal right.

Under present and past governments, core Judaization policy is a dagger against minority Arab rights, dispossessing or prohibiting them from land Israel wants exclusively for Jews. Cooperative associations limited to 500 families effectively enforce this policy, limiting Arab citizens to shrinking areas, comprising about 2.5% of Israel. Eventually it may all be lost for total Judaization. In addition, all valued West Bank and East Jerusalem land may be seized, confining Palestinians to resource-poor, cantonized scrub lands.

On December 16, Haaretz writers Jack Khoury and Jonathan Lis headlined, "Israeli towns continue to rewrite bylaws to keep Arabs out," saying:

Circumventing Knesset and High Court actions, Jewish "communities are....rewriting admission regulations in order to 'preserve their Jewish and Zionist character.' " The idea, of course, is to prohibit Arabs and other unwanted residents.

A Misgav Regional Council proposal describes the "multigenerational and variegated communal life that upholds Zionist values and seeks to maintain Israel as a Jewish and democratic state in the spirit of (Israel's 1948) Declaration of Independence."

The document also mentions community values "based on tolerance, human dignity and reciprocal relations among members, who pursue a communal lifestyle in an independent, democratic and voluntary manner." Those values, however, are racist, excluding anyone not Jewish, putting a lie to sham language without meaning.

On December 26, Israel's High Court will decide whether Ahmed and Fatin Zbeidat may live in the Rakafet communal settlement, barring Arabs from residency. As in the past, however, Jewish communities may bypass Court rulings, a testimony to Israel's institutionalized racism.

Rabbis Endorsing Racism

Racist rabbis affirm it, including leading ones wanting renting homes to Arabs prohibited. Dozens of municipal chief rabbis endorsed a religious ruling to do so, claiming Israel belongs to Jews, not goyim, especially Arabs.

Beit El settlement's Rabbi Shlomo Aviner said, "We don't need to help Arabs set down roots in Israel." According to Rabbi Yosef Scheinen, head of Ashdod's Yeshiva, "Racism originated in the Torah. The land of Israel is designated for the people of Israel. This is what Holy One Blessed Be he intended, and that is what the (sage) Rashi interpreted." God intended Israel for Jews, he added, a notion only bigoted hatemonger ones endorse. Doing so should get them suspended, denounced and prohibited from distorting true Jewish dogma, teaching love, not hate, like Islam.

No shred of evidence exists that Torah or Talmudic doctrine sanction racism or any other form of hate. Even Haifa's Mayor Yonah Yahav was outraged, calling the ruling a "desecration of God's name." Nazareth Mayor Ramiz Jaraisy said, "We are all children of the land. Both (sides) must search for common ground and not bring out escalation." The rabbis, however, urged "neighbors and acquaintances (of Jews who rent or sell to Arabs to) distance themselves (from them), refrain from doing business with (them), deny (them) the right to read from the Torah, and (ostracize them) until (they retract) this harmful deed."

Racist rabbis offer more proof of Israel's sham democracy. Most disturbing, however, is the extremist Netanyahu government, support or no dissent from opposition leaders, and Israel's most right-wing ever Knesset, flouting democratic principles one law or edict at a time. It endorses, but hasn't yet passed, measures like Israel's Law of Citizenship amendment, requiring non-Jews wanting it to pledge loyalty to "the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state."

On October 10, Netanyahu's cabinet approved it (22 - 8) for new non-Jewish citizens. He, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, other Knesset hard-liners, and MK religious zealots support it.

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) expressed concern about increasing anti-democratic Knesset measures proposed or passed. They're "gaining momentum and, regrettably" the new session may be worse, though at times, language in original submissions is softened.

The last session was notably anti-democratic. If this one's no different, enormous damage will be done. Apparently it's Israel's chosen course, harming Arabs most of all.

The ‘Israel-Firster’ CNN has reported that Israeli Air Force shot down an unidentified flying object over the Dimona nuclear plant in the Negev Desert Thursday.

I am relieved to learn that Zionazi gangsters are learning from their past overblown ego of ‘invincibility’.

In September 2004, Israel’s most circulated English daily reported had reported that an “Iranian-made Hizbullah drone had spent about five minutes in space over Israel”, without being detected by the Israel Air Force.

However, this time the ‘macho’ Benji Netanyahu Jewish government says that “the object could have been a party balloon” but the Israeli army was put on red-alert as was the case during Iranian President Dr. Ahmadinejad’s visit to South Lebanon in October 2010.

Now if Israel recieves 20 American-made F-35 fighter planes at no cost in addition to annual military aid worth US$3 billion from US-taxpayers – that doesn’t give a right to Tehran and Damascus to arm Hizbullah with drones and scud missiles, does it?

Let us not forget that the Zionists’ myth of “Palestine was promised to Jews”, Christian Zionist journalist and author Michael Drosnin – who had worked for Zionist Jewish-owned Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post had stated a Biblical prophecy in his book ‘Bible Code II’. Drosnin had predicted a “weapon being smuggled in or fired from the Dead Sea region”. Now, Israel’s neighboring western Arab puppet governments in Jordan and Egypt are very friendly with Zionist regime. Syria is in no mood to cross lines with Israel and Lebanon has no tanks or air-force to fight the ‘mighty Israel’. This leaves only Hizbullah to fulfil the Biblical prophecy.

Islamic Republic successfully tested its home-made drone in July 2009 after which it started the mass production. Iran is the only among the 57-Muslim nation-states which produces most of its conventional armament locally – as result of the 30-year-old sanctions. In August 2010 – Islamic Republic unveiled its domestically built long-range unmanned missile carrying drone. Watch a video below.

WHO IS THE REAL BARACK OBAMA? – AN ANALYSIS

When President Obama ran for the presidency, his rhetoric was distinctly progressive. He is a very good orator and a superior debater and so we can be forgiven for taking the rhetoric seriously. He also often acted like a progressive up to that point. If he talks like a progressive, and acts like one, shouldn’t he be one? Here are some relevant biographical facts.

1. Barack Obama worked , albeit mostly in an administrative position, as a community organizer on Chicago’s south side during the years 1985-1988. He was apparently dedicated and successful in this effort.
2. He spent 12 years as a constitutional law professor (1992-2004) at the University of Chicago School of Law. His grounding in constitutional law is thorough.
3. As U.S. Senator he sponsored legislation to improve “transparency and accountability in federal spending” (2008).
4. And, one of his early actions as president was to streamline procedures for the Freedom of Information Act thus making it easier to utilize (2009).

However, soon thereafter President Barack Obama started to pursue anti-progressive policies. Indeed, this turn around has been quite startling. It has made many people angry and has destroyed at least that part of his political base that lies on the left. Here is a short list of the president’s recent positions and actions:

1. He has absolutely rejected holding accountable any member of the Bush administration (or its private contractors) for actions which were in violation of both domestic and international law. Among these actions were instigating war on false pretenses and pursuing policies of torture and illegal detention.
2. He has allowed (perhaps instructed) his Justice Department to promote and defend positions which sharply undercut the First Amendment of the Constitution. Specifically, the position, now upheld by the Supreme Court, that speech “coordinated” with groups designated terrorist by the U.S. Government is a felony. It is important to note that the designation of a group as “terrorist” is notoriously influenced by political pressure.
3. He has allowed the U.S. Army to hold Pvt. Bradley Manning, the soldier who leaked information to Wikileaks, at the Quantico, Virginia brig under conditions that come very close to cruel and unusual punishment.
4. He has allowed the harassment of Julian Assange, the head of Wikileaks, because he made public (but did not steal) embarrassing U.S. documents. This can be seen as the equivalent of government stalking.
5. He now has allowed (perhaps instructed) his Justice Department to prepare a conspiracy case against Manning and Assange for allegedly conspiring to obtain government secrets. This is an action that could seriously curtail the process of investigative reporting in the U.S.

How are we to account for such a remarkable about face by a man who is trained as a constitutional lawyer and who was a progressive until soon after entering the Oval Office? I imagine the definitive answer to this question will have to wait for the opening of the Obama presidential library and the biographies that are even now germinating in minds of scores of historians. In the meantime here are some observations that may help our understanding.

First of all, time and position can certainly change a person. It is one thing to be a constitutional law professor and another to be a professional politician. Constitutional lawyers often have consistent principles, be they conservative or liberal. It is harder, rarer, for a politician to act consistently on principle. In his relatively brief pre-presidential political career Obama did maintain his progressive orientation. But then, suddenly as president, he ceased to do so. In order for this change to have happened so quickly and so radically one is led to the assumption that the man’s principles were always associational and not fundamental. That is, Barack Obama has probably always adapted his behavior to the environment he finds himself in and the crowd he associates with. It is when he became president that both his environment and crowd apparently changed. He simply followed suit.

Second, presidents always seem to lose touch with the reality that lay outside the nation’s capital. Obama is not unusual here. Once you hit the Oval Office, make your grand plans and pick your advisors, “groupthink” becomes a mainstay of your worldview. Obama’s world no longer has any direct feed in from constituencies that might sustain behavior based on Constitutional principles. He is now in an environment that is essentially “value-less” and dominated by a deal making culture.

Third, Apropos of that culture, Obama appears to be constantly searching for political consensus. Under the circumstances, he cannot define his own principled political positions. He apparently feels forced to make constant changes according to the demands of special interests with which he believes he must compromise. Thus, the Constitution ceases to be a guide and instead becomes something that one sacrifices for the sake of political agreements. If going after the criminals of the last administration means alienating conservatives with whom he seeks consensus, he lets the criminals go. The law becomes a secondary factor. If treating Manning and Assange according to the rules of law means alienating powerful Washington bureaucracies, he ignores their mistreatment. Again, too bad for the law. If cutting ties with the apartheid state of Israel means challenging the Zionist lobby, he ignores the escalating crimes of our “ally.” Justice and humanness also become secondary factors. If championing the First Amendment means having to fight accusations of being “soft on terrorism,” then free speech be damned. This is not political wisdom at work. This is political expediency. Nor has it provided him with a winning formula. Obama may well be a one term president.
And, as is usual, along with political expediency comes hypocrisy. In October of 2010 Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, Conversations With Myself, was released in the U.S. It has a forward by President Obama. In it he praised Mandela as a man whose “sacrifice was so great that it called upon people everywhere to do what they could on behalf of human progress.” That sacrifice inspired a young Barack Obama to become a political activist “coordinating” his rhetoric with that of Mandela in the fight against apartheid in South Africa. But, of course, Mandela and the organization he led, the African National Congress, was at that time a designated “terrorist organization.” Fortunately for Mr. Obama, his rhetorical support for Mandela was then protected by the First Amendment. That protection is what present Barack Obama’s Justice Department has erased. The FBI is now raiding homes and issuing subpoenas for people in Chicago and elsewhere who can fairly be described as acting just like Barack Obama in the early 1980s.

This president has lost his way. And we have, at least for the foreseeable future, lost important aspects of our constitutional rights. What does this tell us? Those who seek success in politics are rarely fundamentally principled people. They are folks whose principles are associational and that lets them move freely in a world where opportunism is thought to be survival trait. And, it would seem, it is in the modern democratic milieu that this way of politics has been brought to a fine art.
